Baltimore, MD (Future150) -- One of Baltimore’s best sophomores may be a player you have heard very little about, but that’s about to change. Due to a league transfer rule, 2016 center Ryan Gomes hasn’t been able to suit up for Baltimore Friends Academy (MD) this year. Despite having to sit out the high school season, Gomes has seen the buzz around him grow.

The big man had a solid performance at the Future150 National Camp this fall, making the Top 20 Game and proving he is one of the better defensive-minded big men on the east coast in his class. Since October, he has grown to 6’10’’ and has continued to add muscle to his wiry frame.

Gomes has also had the chance to play against some quality competition in non-HS events this fall and winter, the most notable being a game against 2015 center George Papagiannis, who is a future pro. Gomes was able to frustrate the 7’1’’, 265-pound big man and hold him to just four points while on the floor.

Schools are starting to take notice of the Future150 alum’s skills. Virginia and Kansas State are just the latest schools to throw their hats into the ring, while Kansas, Maryland, and Georgetown have all shown various amounts of interest as well.

The big man will suit up for DC Premier this season alongside PG Alani Moore, PG Anthony Cowan, CG Nyrhique Smith, and F Joe Hampton, among others.  While Moore, Cowan, and Hampton have all been together for a while, Smith and Gomes are talented additions that should only make this team more dangerous.

Follow along with Future150 as we continue to cover Gomes throughout the AAU season, and remember where you heard the name first!
