Powder Springs, GA (Future150) -- The Georgia Fusion breezed to the Future150 Main Event Atlanta championship in 13U, taking down the Atlanta Nets by a score of 53-45. The Fusion made quite the impression in Atlanta, rarely being tested throughout the weekend. Star 6'4" forward John Eason Jr. scored 14 points in the championship, while Nets star wing Khalil Porter scored 16 points in a losing effort.
Future150 Main Event Atlanta 13U Standouts:
John Eason Jr., 2022 SF/PF, Georgia Fusion (GA): The most dominant prospect in the division was the 6'4" southpaw. A combination forward currently, he was absolutely dominant around the rim, finishing everything he got his hands on. He used his physicality to emerge as the alpha-male in the 13U division, leading his team to an easy championship. Look for the North Carolina prospect to make waves over the next year.
Deuce Miller, 2022 C, Atlanta Big Five (GA): The biggest prospect in the division at 6'6", he immediately caught our eye with his size. However, he's not just tall, as he's a muscular prospect as well. His skills have a long way to go on both ends of the floor, but as is the case with most young big men, he's going to see a burst in production over the next year, and when it happens, he'll become one of the most dominant posts in the Southeast.
Kyran Ratliff, 2022 PF, New Orleans Rising Stars (LA): The upside factor for the 6'4" post prospect is very high. Not only does he run the floor well and have good mobility, but his frame and movements on the floor project a significant amount of growth left in him. He finished well around the rim and rebounded well, especially on the defensive end. As far as his defensive skills go, he was also an active shot-blocker around the rim.
Manny Duany, 2022 SF, Atlanta Big Five (GA): Maybe the most athletic prospect in the division, the 6'2" small forward is already an above-the-rim player. He showed a soft touch around the rim and used his long limbs to rebound the ball while playing against bigger posts. While his handle and perimeter shot certainly need work. there's a lot to like with the young wing.
Alex Hammond, 2022 SG, New Orleans Rising Stars (LA): A talented slasher at 6-foot-1, Hammond was able to get into the lane at will and finish at the rim. His ability to put the ball on the floor and attack make him incredibly effective as a scorer and he hit a number of shots from beyond the arc as well. With continued improvement as a shooter, Hammond could develop into one of the top prospects in the state.
Yeshua Lawson, 2022 SF/PF, Atlanta Select Scholars: The first thing that sticks out about Lawson is his good size and length for a combo forward at his age. He can score the ball from all three levels, and he rebounded and protected the rim consistently throughout the weekend as well. The ceiling is very high for Lawson, assuming he continues to grow and develop over the next several years.
Nasir Scaife, 2022 PG, Nashville Stars (TN): Scaife has good size for a guard his age at 5'10" and he was using his size to his advantage against opposing guards all throughout the weekend. He scored a team high 11 points against a very talented Atlanta Select team on Saturday night, and definitely has the potential to be a prominent prospect in the state of Tennessee as he gets older.
Antjuan McKay, 2022 SG, Savannah Blue Chips (GA): Putting plenty of points on the scoresheet throughout the weekend, McKay was very impressive on the offensive end and used his length to be an extremely versatile defender on defense. He is six feet tall and has good fundamental skills, which is good to see in a young prospect. The size and skills are there, now McKay just needs to continue to get stronger.
Khalil Porter, 2022 Wing, Atlanta Nets (GA): Arguably the best all-around scorer in the division, Porter was knocking down shots from all over the place on Saturday and Sunday. It was easy for him to knock down a lot of well defended jumpers because he would use his length to shoot right over the top of the defense. Porter is yet another player in the 13U age divison that definitely has a chance to be something special if he continues to grow and develop his game.
Jonathan Jeffcoat, 2022 PG, SC Focus (SC): Don't let Jeffcoat's tiny size (5'1") fool you, this kid can play. The speedy guard used his lightning quick first step and decent ball-handling skills to get to the rim and score multiple times throughout the weekend. With the 13U divison being loaded with lengthy guards, he still managed to score tough baskets around the rim.
