Durham, NC (Future150) -- Long before he was a 2017 McDonald's All-American who won multiple gold medals with USA Basketball, Wendell Carter Jr. was just a lanky 6'5" 7th grader getting his first in-game dunk at our 2012 Future150 Main Event Atlanta.
The following year, he not only grew to 6'8", but he was beginning to round into the five-star prospect he would later become, shining at our 2013 Future150 Elite24 All-American Camp, where he shared co-MVP honors with Trae Young.
Now a star freshman at Duke University, he's not only putting up huge numbers, but he's getting better as the season progresses. His current averages of 14.4 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game have him firmly on the radar of NBA scouts, as he's currently projected as a lottery selection in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Not only is he a phenomenal basketball talent, but he's a high-academic student-athlete who chose Duke over Harvard after a spectacular career at Pace Academy (GA). While he's focused on winning a national championship this season, there's little doubt that he'll end up jumping to the NBA after his freshman season in Durham.
However, regardless where his career takes him, you can bet that he'll earn his Duke degree sooner rather than later. For Wendell, it's always been books before ball.
