Columbus, MS (Future150) -- Mississippi State not only landed a top 50 prospect in the country on Tuesday night, but more importantly, they were able to keep the #1 prospect in the state of Missisippi at home.
Columbus (MS) 6'6" small forward Robert Woodard II picked the Bulldogs over Alabama & Ole Miss. The 2017 Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year averaged 25.2 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3 blocks per game last season, and followed that with a strong AAU season while playing on the Nike EYBL circuit with Mississippi Express.
We first got our eyes on Woodard II when he was in the 8th grade while playing at our Future150 Main Event Birmingham Tournament. At that point, it was clear that he was a top 50 talent in the country, and he proved that statement to be true over the course of his career.
During that tournament, he was playing for the Mississippi based Da House AAU program, who he played with over the next three years. It's important to note the importance that program had on his development, along with his experiences with MEBO and his Columbus High School program.
Mississippi State fans might remember Robert's father, Robert Woodard, who lettered for the Bulldogs from 1987-1990.
He joins four-star prospects Reggie Perry & DJ Stewart in the Bulldogs class, giving them a top 20 class in the country.
