Houston, TX (Future150) -- The Future150 camp series continued this past weekend in Houston, Texas. In our ninth year, we found several sleeper prospects ready to burst onto the scene. Below are our all-star selections from the weekend.
Noah Palmer, 2017 SF, Houston, Texas: The 6'3", 230-pound bruising wing was arguably the breakout star of the camp. A powerful yet agile small forward, he punished defenders with his aggressive offensive drives. He's not just all power, though. He's a highly skilled, vocal prospect on both ends of the floor.
Kevin Dawson, 2017 SG, Humble, Texas: A sneaky athlete at 6'3", the Humble High School (TX) prospect was one of the best scorers at camp. When he wasn't knocking down perimeter shots, he used his quickness off-the-dribble to get to the basket, where he routinely finished against bigger defenders.
Ke'lyn Adams, 2017 SG, Pearland, Texas: A long and athletic 6'4" shooting guard with deep range on his jumper, the 6'4" Pearland (TX) prospect has substantial upside. His feel for the game is superb, and he is a high-volume scorer. Once he improve his ball skills and motor, watch out!
Yosani Clay, 2018 SG, Tomball, Texas: An impressive leaper at 6'1", the wing is very dangerous when slashing to the basket. However, he's no slouch on the perimeter. He showed that he can knock down shots from both the three-point line and from mid-range. Defensively, he used his athleticism and active hands to create turnovers.
Chanston Berry, 2018 PG, Magee, Mississippi: An extremely efficient penetrator, the Mendenhall (MS) lead guard uses his strong frame and explosiveness to rack up points in a hurry. He's very good at finishing through contract around the rim and showed his ability as a standout on-ball defender as well.
Zech Selvage, 2020 PG, Katy, Texas: An electric playmaker with advanced ball skills and court vision, the Cy Lakes (TX) point guard reminds us a bit of former Houston star De'Aaron Fox with his play. The skilled lefty knows how to create in very tight spaces and is extremely unselfish and very coachable.
Taiga Kagitomi, 2018 SF, Fukuoka, Japan: The 6'5" wing continues to see his game evolve as he's grown and matured since our last viewing in 2014. Playing for Japan's U16/U18 team has also really helped shape him into an effective scorer who is capable of getting baskets on all three levels. His combination of skill and maturity to go along with his strong frame is very impressive.
Jeremy Mgbeike, 2017 SF, Richmond, Texas: A physical specimen at 6'4", the strong and athletic wing was a terror on the glass all weekend. He showed the ability to score on all three levels while standing out as a slasher. On defense, he's a prototypical on-ball defender who can shut down the opposing teams best player.
Breon Thompson, 2020 SF, San Antonio, Texas: The best prospect in the San Antonio area in the 2020 class, the 6'6" wing headed to Highlands (TX) has considerable upside. He uses his high-motor to accumulate rebounds on both ends of the floor, while also showing ability as a scorer on all three levels. As he hones his perimeter and ball skills, he will become a dangerous prospect.
Nathan McClure, 2018 SG, Woodlands, Texas: A skilled 6'3" wing with ability to score from the perimeter as well as on penetration, the Concordia Lutheran (TX) prospect really showed a diversified offensive game at camp. A surprise aspect of his arsenal, however, was his explosiveness. When given the opportunity, he tried to posterize several unassuming victims on both the fast break and in the half-court setting.
Chase Theard, 2018 PF, Simonton, Texas: The 6'5" high-motor forward is extremely active on the offensive and defensive glass. On the defensive end, he's an active and physical on-ball defender as well. However, the aspect of his game that has improved the most and proved to be most effective is his mid-range jumper, which he utilized all weekend long at camp.
Daryn Vincent, 2019 SG, San Antonio, Texas: Another solid young prospect is the 6'0" guard from Brennan High School (TX). Right now, he's at his best when slashing to the rim or knocking down shots in the mid-range. He plays with a high IQ and understands spacing on the floor, which helps him find open spaces for jumpers.
Jonah Oliver, 2017 SG, Humble, Texas: The calling card of the 6-footer was his 3-point shooting at camp. If given any space at all, he made the defense pay. He also showed a pretty stroke from mid-range and was also a solid creator for his teammates when given the opportunity. A true competitor on both ends of the floor.
Joshua Vinal, 2017 SF, Kingwood, Texas: A modern day stretch-four man at 6'6", he really excelled when stretching the defense by using his 3-point shooting as a deadly weapon. He also showed crafty footwork and post moves around the rim, making him an option both inside and out. He plays with a high motor and isn't afraid to play physical post defense.
Andre Jones, 2019 PG, Humble, Texas: Don't be fooled by his size. The 5'6" lead guard is a dynamite scorer. When he got hot from the perimeter, he was extremely hard to stop due to his shooting range and his quickness when getting to open spots. He also showed that he's a passionate prospect who takes pride in playing hard on both ends of the floor.
Karldon Williams, 2018 PG, Humble Texas: Always in attack mode, the 6'0" lead guard was relentless in his downhill drives to the basket, where he loved finishing with his left hand. A blur in transition, he made life hard for the defense, who always had to account for where he was on the floor. He also took pride in his on-ball defense.
Trent Becker, 2019 PG, Frisco, Texas: A fantastic passer and skilled creator at 5'10", the players on his team were able to benefit from him making smart plays all weekend. He always made the extra pass, which led to wide-open shooting looks for his teammates. He also knew when to attack and utilized a pretty floater in the lane throughout the weekend.
Max Armer, 2019 PG, Beach City, Texas: One of the pleasant surprises of the weekend was the 5'7" lead guard. Extremely skilled and able to operate in small creases offensively, he shook up the camp with his long-range shooting and scoring ability. He also knew when to find his teammates for open looks, which made him even more valuable.
Xavion Alford, 2020 CG, Houston, Texas: A 5'10" combo guard headed to Shadow Creek High School (TX), he was the youngest prospect to make the all-star game, showing his upside as a prospect. He can play either perimeter position, showing ability to faciliate as well as ability as a scorer. Right now, the strongest aspect of his game is his slashing ability.
Alex Ionesco, 2017 PG, Houston, Texas: A lead guard with good size (6'1") and strength, the European prospect is highly skilled. His shot mechanics and mid-range jumper are on point, and he showed that he can also be a leader on the offensive and defensive end. His high IQ and slashing ability also stood out to our staff as well.
Cam Clardy, 2020 PG, Katy, Texas: One of the best rising freshmen in the city of Houston is the 5'11" lead guard headed to Cy Lakes High School (TX). A strong and quick prospect, he can hurt you in several ways. However, he's at his best when he's attacking the basket or setting up his teammates for easy scoring opportunities.
Dominic Warner, 2018 PG, La Porte, Texas: A heady floor general with excellent instincts and passing skills, the 5'9" point guard also shined as a three-point shooter while at camp. He got better as the camp went on, adjusting to the prospects around him, which really showed his high IQ as a lead guard. He was also very vocal in leading his team.
Matthieu Ionesco, 2017 SG, Houston Texas: An extremely skilled 6-foot wing, the European prospect really shined with his ability to dribble, pass & shoot. He has a solid frame, which he uses to his advantage on the defensive end. On offense, he is wise when picking his spots, and he really excels when scoring from mid-range and when slashing.
Dylan Becker, 2019 SG, Frisco, Texas: A high IQ prospect at 5'11", he showed ability as a scorer from mid-range as well as from the perimeter. When necessary, he's also a capable ball-handler and can run the point guard spot for stretches. On the defensive end, he was disruptive when defending the ball.
Kaylon Paley, 2018 PG, Houston, Texas: While he's only 5'9", he makes up for it with his perimeter scoring ability. Not only is he a high-volume shooter and scorer, but showed that he has extremely deep range on his jump shot, which makes the defense guard him out to about 25 feet. He also showed that he can play without the ball in his hands.
Dylan Uthman, 2019 SF, Houston, Texas: A 6'4" small forward, he excels as a shooter from the 3-point line. We also liked his footwork in the low block on post-ups. He plays with a high IQ, and he managed to find many different avenues to score during game play at the camp. The next step for him will be to improve his lateral quickness and ball skills.
Travis Munsey, 2018 SG, Spring, Texas: The 6-footer knows how to move without the ball, which is a rarity in this day and age. He can score with either hand, and is effective when shooting from mid-range. We also liked his ability to knock down shots when shooting off-the-dribble. His smart play gave him an advantage against many of his competitors.
