Mark Nelson:

Houston, TX (Future150) -- The Future150 Tournament Series started its 2016 campaign in Houston, TX with the Easter Showcase. Talent from four different states were on hand to compete, and players were looking to make a name for themselves.

Here are the top performers from the 12U divison in the tournament.

Shawn Mitchell, 2022 PG - Texas Inferno: Mitchell has a good frame and scores around the rim well. He scores off of floaters, runners and pull-up jumpers from 15 ft. Mitchell helped keep his Texas Inferno team in games and he showed that he can be a leader on the floor.

Ryan Williams, 2022 PF - RL9: Williams is a big body that is skilled from the high post. One thing the staff liked about Williams is his ability to rebound effectively on both ends of the floor. He has good vision in transition after he gets a rebound and takes the ball up the floor.

Bryson Matthews, 2023 PG - RL9: Matthews is a small lead guard that was a fifth grader playing up. He has good handles and shoots the ball solid from the perimeter. The staff liked his vision and willingness to pass up a good shot for himself, for a better shot for his teammates which isn’t seen much in that age group. Matthews has a good foundation to build upon.

Cale Hellums, 2022 PG - Basketball University: Cale is the younger brother of Pepperdine commit Knox Hellums and he showed he can do many things on the court. He can pass, shoot, and handle the ball well. He is very skilled for his age, and we like the direction his game is heading.

Aaron Woods, 2022 PG - Basketball University: Woods is a scrappy point guard that never lacks intensity on the defensive end. He gets steals from the press, and from snatching balls out of the passing lanes. Woods can handle the ball and is aggressive going towards the lane. His high motor helps him create plays and that extra effort will take him a long way.

Ameer Oakley, 2022 SG - Basketball University: Oakley is a big guard/forward that plays several positions. He is capable of guarding multiple positions as well. Oakley doesn’t shy away from contact when he has the ball and can finish layups and shots inside with contact. In the championship game against RL9 his presence was known

Elijah Lewis, 2022 G - Barrett Station Heat: Lewis is a crafty guard who showed good ball skills not only dribbling but shooting as well. He made four threes in a game and had a few and-one finishes around the rim. His passion and relentless effort was what really stood out, along with his shot making abilities. Overall Lewis had a very solid performance on the weekend.
