Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- Under Armour sponsored We R1 traveled all the way from Delaware in order to participate in the 2014 Future150 Charlotte Main Event, logging an impressive eight hours on the road in order to participate. When the dust settled on the event Sunday afternoon, it proved to be worth it, with the 14U program defeating Tri County Impact 54-40. With a roster stacked with talent, they had little trouble winning the title, and in the process, they saw their boys get plenty of attention with their play.
Here are some 14U standouts from the weekend....
Ethan LeGrand, 2018 PF/C Charlotte Reign: The 6-foot-3 post prospect had a nice weekend, showing ability as a physical rebounder and capable finisher on the low block. He looks like he still has some growing left to do, and his coordination coupled with his size will make him a promsing prospect over the coming years.
Jamal Whittlesey, 2018 C, We R1: An absolutely massive prospect in the low block, the 6-foot-4, 275-pound center had his way with defenses the entire weekend. Possessing incredible footwork for such a big kid, Whittlesey uses his frame to carve out space and create scoring opportunities for himself in the paint.
D’Angelo Knight, 2018 SF, SC Southern Stampede: One of the more athletic players at the event was the 6-foot small forward hailing from North Charleston, South Carolina. He is a good finisher around the rim and has good burst off-the-dribble. While his jump shot isn't very consistent yet, his ability to get to the basket and finish around the rim makes him a hard kid to stop.
Trevon Alderman, 2019 PG, We R1: The 5-foot-8 lead guard proved to be a national talent in Charlotte, impressing our staff with his phenomenal court vision and awareness on the floor. He doesn't require much space in order to find the open man, and right now, he looks like a top 100 prospect nationally for the seventh grade.
Trey Foster, 2017 PG, Macon Bucks: The Rutland (GA) product was an impressive guard with his ball skills and attacking style. The 6-footer can get into the lane at will and knows how to finish around the rim. While his jump shot isn't the most consistent yet, he has good form and mechanics.
Sean Simon, 2018 SG, We R1: An elite shooter, Simon was knocking down long range bombs all weekend. In front of our staff. He had several games of five or more triples, while shooting an excellent percentage from the field. While he is limited creating for himself at this point, there is no denying his ability as a shooter.
Jalen Williams, 2019 PG, SC Southern Stampede: A true set-up man, the smooth point has good court vision and instincts on the floor. He plays well in the transition setting and is very good at setting up his teammates. He can also shoot the ball from the perimeter when he wants to score the basketball.
Keenan Norris, 2018 PF, Tri County Impact: The 6-foot-2 power forward proved to be a reliable finisher around the rim all weekend long. He had a game high of 22 points in one game in front of staff and used his high motor and solid defensive instincts to make his presence felt.
Darius Kinnel, 2018 SG, We R1: Darius is a shooting guard prospect with good shooting touch from three-point land. He has solid ball skills and is a tough combo guard who is capable of playing some lead guard on occasion. He is a Philly style guard who is very tough on the offensive end, while also playing physical defense.
Jimmy Marshall, 2017 PF, Macon Bucks: Jimmy is an athletic big man who runs like a deer in the open floor. He gets several easy scoring opportunities per game in transition, and he is also an aggressive rebounder on both ends. Capable finisher around the rim. Very high upside prospect.
Gabe Bryant, 2018 C, SC Southern Stampede: Although very raw offensively, Gabe shows flashes of the prospect he can become down the line. He is an excellent shot-blocker right now on defense, and on offense, his footwork is improving. His high motor and rebounding skills are what make him stand out to this point. Excellent size at 6-foot-7.
Kiyon Johnson, 2018 SG/SF, We R1: Kiyon is a slashing wing prospect who has excellent body control. He knows how to finish around the basket and is very crafty when doing so. He loves to get out in transition and plays the game with toughness. Already 6-foot-2, he projects to sprout a few more inches, which could make him a very dangerous prospect in the future.
Brandon Kinloch, 2018 PG, Tri County Impact: Brandon is a fiery lead guard who plays with an edge every time he takes the floor. He has excellent burst off-the-dribble and can get into the lane at will. He is also a good on-ball defender as well.
Chris Cropper, 2018 PF, We R1: Already possessing the body of a high school prospect, Chris is an excellent rebounder due to his strength and athleticism. He runs the floor extremely well and has very good hands as well. The 6-foot-2 forward is developing perimeter skills as well.
Jamontay Williams, 2018 PF, UBA: Williams is a long and active big man that routinely blocked or altered shots this past weekend. He ran the floor well and found a way to finish at the rim more often than not. He has a wiry frame and big hands, suggesting that he still has plenty of room for growth. He is one we will be keeping a close eye on.
J.J. Nelson, 2018 CF, Phoenix Express: Nelson was the go-to guy for his team all weekend, scoring at the rim and from the high post. He often caught it at the foul line and did a majority of his damage there. He has good size for a player his age and is fairly skilled. Overall, he had a solid showing.
