Birmingham, AL (Future150) -- The Birmingham Future150 Main Event had some familiar faces in attendance in the eighth grade division.  Whether it was from previous tournaments or camps we have seen this age group grow over the years.  The most familiar face was the #5 player in the country in Chandler Lawson

Chandler and his Team Penny squad had a very good showing throughout the weekend to capture the championship.  His guard-like skills and length was just too much.  The game appeared to come too easily for him.

Conner Richardson has shown consistent growth since we last saw him.  The big is very active on the glass and plays with a high motor.  He also showed added mid-range shot to his offensive arsenal.

The biggest surprise of this age group was Teahzjawon Harper.  This kid came to the tournament with a point to prove and he definitely got his point across.  He imposed his will on everybody.  Some kids just have it and he’s one of them.  Teahzjawon can really fill it up, almost scoring 40 points against Lawson’s Team Penny squad.  He has a chance to see his name go in the rankings after the type of weekend he had.

The Chattanooga Elite roster had Future150 attendee and Top 20 Camp invitee Anthony Watkins.  He started right where he left off at the camp, being efficient and hustling every play.

The trio of guards for South Louisiana Select were back in effect. Terrence Jones, Jaylon Williams and Pierre Dupre have all grown and matured both physically and mentally.  They always have a chance to win with their chemistry, but they individually got game.

Other Standouts:

Jakaoymine Sonnier, 2019 PF, 6th Man Warriors: Sonnier was one of the more intriguing prospects.  At 6-foot-6 inches, he has long arms and is a good athlete.  He made a living on the offensive glass.

Sky Forest, 2019 SG, Team Penny: Sky's a two-sport prospect that has a chance to play at a high level in both football and basketball.  In basketball, his size and versatile scoring ability makes him a very tough player to guard.  Also, Forest has a big frame that allows him to take bumps in the lane and be physical.

Tyrese Smith, 2019 PG, MC Warriors:  Tyrese had a weekend of ups and downs. When he was up he played very well.  He shot the ball extremely well when he got his feet set.  He has the reputation as a shooter, but showed improvement with his ball-handling and getting to the rim.

Darrion Farrar, 2019 SF, Memphis Prep:  Darrion is a coach's dream.  He plays hard from start to finish and finds a way to produce.  He played well in the Silver Championship strictly off of hustle and playing with a motor.  He does all the intanglble things that lead to wins.

Spencer Bayonne, 2019 SG, Louisiana Gators:  Spencer is a fundamentally skilled guard who plays the game the right way.  He also has a fundemantally sound shot that went in more often than not.  With maturity and growth he will be able to get by more physical guards and take his game to the next level.

Micheal Cobb, 2019 SG, PVE Wildcats:  Michael had a good weekend ending one game with a buzzer-beating three to help his team win by one.  He was a constant scoring threat and playmaker for his team. Michael had a great showing.

Cardelle Wilson, 2019 SF, Louisiana Rockets: Davis is one of the those players who can do it all.  He is a great on ball defender and has quick feet.  Rebounding on both ends is definitely something he does reall well.  If you leave him open he can make both the mid range and 3-point shots.  He was one of the more polished players on the defensive end we saw this past weekend.

Bobby Sanders Jr., PG 2019, Alabama Prodigyz:  The shifty PG had a successful weekend.  He played consistently well and stayed in attack mode where he finished acrobatic plays in the process.   Bobby also played defense with a passion.

Mason Cooper, CF 2020, Alabama Prodigyz:  Though he played a division up, that did not stop Mason from doing what he wanted to do.  Mason showed the ability to mix it up down low with the big men as well as score from the wing position.  Mason can shoot out to 18-feet consistently and that makes him a tough player to guard.

Michael McClary, SG 2019, Nashville Wildboyz:  Michael was back at it as usual.  Scoring in bunches and raining three’s from everywhere.  He is always a scoring threat as soon as he steps on the floor.  McClary has the scoring mentality that every shot is going to go in, which enables him to be in a relentless attack mode.

Adrian Parker, SF 2019, Nashville Wildboyz:  Adrian stepped up major from the last time we saw him.  He helped take on some of the scoring load to help the Wildboyz in their successful weekend.  He attacked the basket and finished plays in traffic.

Michael Hobby, PF 2019, Free Agents:  Michael was too much for most down low.  He knew how to use his body to get position for rebounds and to get points in the paint.  He played with poise and made it easy for his team to find him.

Laquonn Mayes, SF 2019, MS Spartans:  Laquonn was one of the scoring sparks for the Spartans.  He slashed to the basket to either get a bucket or draw contact for a foul.  He also moved well without the ball to keep the defense honest.
