The 12-Under age group featured some of tomorrow's brightest young stars in the Southeast. The Birmingham Storm ran away with the championship beating Memphis Wildcats 69-54. It was a great match up which featured PF Ceione Reaves vs CF Jonathan Lawson.
Ceione Reaves, 2021 PF, Birmingham Storm: Reaves was one of the more impressive players we saw all weekend long. He's is really aggressive, active and a force in the paint. He makes his living on the offensive glass and knows how to score once he gets the rebound. Against the Memphis Wildcats he scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds in the championship win. Reaves takes home MVP honors.
Jonathan Lawson, 2021 CF, Memphis Wildcats: At 6-foot-4 inches, he was almost impossible to stop. He can play all five positions on the floor and do it well. His best attribute might be his court vision, which you just don't see for a player his size at this age. He affects the game on both ends and dominates the competition. Tons of upside to his game. Very versitale.
Dezhion Carter, 2021 PG, Montgomery Fire: Carter is a extremely versatile player who does it all for his team. He rebounds, starts the break and was one of the better finishers on the break we saw this weekend. He can play four positions on the floor and makes it look easy. You can measure his heart and desire to compete which makes him stand out more than the points on the score board.
Jamon Reed, 2021 SF, Birmingham Storm: Reed is a big time player from the wing position who stands 6-foot tall and is long. He showed the ability to handle the ball, attack the basket in transition and finish at the rim. He was one of the better rebounders from the wing position. He scored 10 points in the championship which helped his team win the game.
Kareame Cotton, 2021 SG, ABC Select/Team Penny: Cotton is a long range sniper from the 3-point line. He made consecutive three point shots on several occations this past weekend. He has a good feel and knows how to play the game the right way. Solid overall performance. As he grows and gets stronger so will his game.
Eric Gray, 2021 SG, Memphis Wildcats/Team Penny: Gray is an elite attacker off the dribble for a player his age. Once he gets going down hill, he is tough to stop. He has good ball handling skills and can knock down open shots. Soild performance this past weekend.
Jordan Stringer, 2021 PF, United Elite Warriors: Stringer's skills and agility were apparent all weekend long. He can spin dribble very well. He can defend any position and also get by his man with the bounce. Stringer hit a buzzer-beat against Memphis Disciples.
Tre' Roberson, 2021 CG, Bledsoe's Ice: Roberson is one of those guards that will not back down when the going gets tough. He loves to compete and is all over the court. If you leave him open he will knock down the 3 ball with regularity. Tough player.
Joshua Dorsey, 2021 SF, United Elite Warriors: A high volume scorer, Dorsey projects to be a versatile scorer. His biggest game Saturday came just after lunch where he showed he can score on all three levels. His best attribute might be his ability to get to the free throw line. Blue collar player.
Cameron Gaither, 2021 SF, ABC Select/Team Penny: Gaither is the glue of his team. His teammates feed off him making plays and scoring the rock. He is very fundamental and has a high basketball IQ which makes it fun to watch if you love the game.
Devin Carter, 2021 SG, Jackson Lakers Elite: Carter is a do it all type player who can score in bunches. Even though he might be little in size his heart is what shows the most. He can score in transition and if you leave him open you will pay from long range. He was one of the better 3-point shooters in the 12U age group.
Brandon Wade, 2021 PF, Memphis Disciples: The feet are amazing. Standing 5'8" in his final year of elementary, Wade dances around the floor so effortlessly. He successfully used the Euro step a couple of times when attacking the rim. He scored 22 points against his toughest competition in Team Penny. Solid overall performance this past weekend.
Chance Lee, 2021 SF, TNA Heat: Lee is one of those players every coach wants on his team. You know exactly what your gonna get everytime he steps on the floor, hustle and scoring the rock. He loves to score in transition and get to the free throw line where he made is living this past weekend. He was clearly one of the better players in the tournament.
Martavious Payne, 2021 PF, Memphis Disciples: Payne joined the Disciples from the Mississippi side of the metro area. He competes for Center Hill Middle School now. In the future Payne will be a dominating force underneath the basket. He doesn't rely on size to establish rather he moves his feet to get in good position. As his game matures he will lean on his natural gifts more. Built like a 12-year old Zach Randolph (Memphis Grizzlies), Payne can contort his body in mid-air somewhat. He finished off a layup alley-oop Saturday afternoon.
Miles Versa, 2021 PG, TN Xtreme: Versa is a pass first type point guard who knows how to run his team. He's always under control and know how to make his teammates better. If you leave him open he can knock down the jumper. He has great open and half court vision. This fundamental player is a coaches dream.
Kameion Briggs, 2021 PG, Memphis Disciples: Briggs scored big for the Disciples. He moves the ball up the floor and defends on ball pretty well. He has a good feel for the game and makes his teammates better by distributing the ball. You gottal love a plaer that loves to compete on both ends of the floor. Briggs plays for the competitive Ridgeway Middle.
