Birmingham, AL (Future150) -- Future150 kicked off the annual Main Event Tournament in Birmingham this past weekend and saw over 125 teams from 8 different states competing.
The 12U Division featured plenty of players with raw potential and good skill sets. At the end of the weekend the Jackson Lakers Elite captured the division championship. Behind the help of SG Mark Drone and SF Ismail Rashid, the Lakers couldn't be stopped. Drone was a quick, agile, guard that could tear the defense apart and get into the lane with ease. On the other hand Rashid has decent size for a wing at his age at 5'9 and scored the ball quite well in a variety of ways.
Here are some of the other top performers from the 12U division:
Tyvieon Wilkerson, 2022 PF, Chattanooga Elite: At just above 6'0, Wilkerson already has decent size for a four man at his age. His offensive rebounding was a big plus to his team and he also showed soft touch around the rim at times. Essentially Wilkerson is still very raw, but with more development and another growth spurt he could be a very intriguing player.
Dillon Williams, 2022 PG, DMG Elite: Williams was a big time playmaker whether it was making plays for himself or his teammates. He was fond of shooting the ball of the dribble and used his speed to his advantage when slashing and dishing. At just 5'2, Williams obviously needs to grow and become stronger to max out his potential.
Daveonne Warfield, 2022 PF, DMG Elite: Warfield made sure he was always active and possesses a very impressive motor for someone his age. The rebounding is there and most of his money is made off of offensive rebounds and second chance oppurtunities. Warfield could be a very good F/C if he develops a few go to moves in the post.
A.J. Perry, 2022 CF, Prattville Elite: Perry showed his potential as an all three levels type scorer as he scored in the paint and mid-range and even knocked down a few three's when left open. He was a hard worker off the ball and you have to love his effort given at all times.
Jamaal Gilbert, 2022 PG, Monroe Select Elite: Gilbert is a 5 foot even guard that can score off the bounce and doesn't ever seem to get tired or slow down. Gilbert showed some very raw potential but with some growth and more development on offense, he could be a very serviceable floor general.
Shamar Williams, 2022 C, Monroe Select Elite: Williams showed some very good court vision for a big man and worked hard on the glass on both ends. Williams didn't score very often but you could tell when he was on the floor the team's play was a bit smoother. He is certainly a project heading forward but has plenty of potential.
Amon Scarbrough, 2022 SF, Bessemer Ducks: Scarbrough has long arms and a wiry frame. He has active hands which assist him on defense. His ability to rebound the ball on both ends might be his best attribute in his game so far. He made a living at rebounding and scoring around the rim. His ability to run the floor and finish on the break makes it tough on his opponent when guarding him.
Cameron Wimbush, 2022 SG, Bessemer Ducks: Wimbush is a big time shooter who can score on all three levels. He showed a good ball handling skills to go along with a good feel for the game. He is really fundamental and always seems to find himself in good position to make plays. His three point shooting is definitely what stood out this past weekend. As he gets stronger look for his game to take the next step.
Terry Grove, 2022 PF, EOTO: Grove is a big bodied player who knows how to use his size well around the basket. He is a very good finisher and can fill up the stat sheet. He is very good at creating space and grabbing offensive and defensive rebounds. For a player his size he runs the floor well and is decent on ball defender in the post area. As his skill increases look for his game to go to the next level.
Anthony Johnson, 2022 CG, Bledsoe Ice: Johnson is what we call a do it all type player. He can score from both under the basket and shoot the mid range jumper. He loves scoring off offensive rebounds and put backs. His aggression makes him hard to stop and he can affect the game on both ends. Heart is the word that best describes his game. Solid overall performance this past weekend.
DeMarcus Powe, 2022 PG, Meridian Outlaws: Powe is a very good shooter at the lead position. His handles are nice and he can slash the lane or pull up for the mid-range jumper. He's also capable of knocking down the deep ball when he's left open. Powe will need to grow and continue to get stronger, along with making some improvements to his court vision in order for him to max out his potential.
