Powder Springs, GA (Future150) -- Four members of the 2014 AAU National Champions captured another title Sunday at the Future150 Easter Showcase. Georgia United Elite defeated Team Finesse/Alabama Celtics in a hotly contested final, 59-53.
Physical play from Mohammad Abdulsalam accompanied slashing flair from Marquavius Carter.
These are some of the other top 15u division performers:
Justyn Ross, 2018 SF, Team Finesse: Ross was the most athletic player in the 15U division. His ability to attack the rim while avoiding contact was a site to see. He had several big time dunks in transition. At close to 6-foot-5 inches, he is hell on wheels when attacking his defenders. Once he got his defenders off balance, Ross starting knocking down the 3-ball with regularity. Its hard to give the MVP to the 2nd place team but he definitely deserved it.
Naseim Brantley, 2018 SG, Georgia Spurs: Slashing to the bucket is routine for Naseim. His nose for the paint is special. Facing a stifling Georgia United Elite battalion, Brantley scored 15 first half points. Attack, attack, attack. His singular focus on getting to the basket is impressive. The sophomore scored 26 points in his Future150 Easter Showcase debut. A charge call against him prevented the Spurs from snatching a late win over the Georgia United Elite.
Antonio Thomas, 2019 PG, Memphis Eagles Elite: Possibly the 15u MVP, Thomas does everything well and some things great. A 5'9" scorer, Thomas plays with excellent balance on the ball. He can lose almost any defender with just three dribbles; He has a staggering change of direction.
Xavier Quagraine, 2018 SF, Georgia Premier: As a forward, Q slips around fellow frontcourt players. His strength ranks high amongst high school freshmen. Turning for a hook, Q instead dropped off a beautiful dime to Orion Weems. The result was an uncontested bunny. Q's kryptonite is shooting touch. He needs arc in the worst way.
Jarrious Jefferson, 2018 PG, Team Finesse: Jefferson showed up at the Future150 Underclassmen camp in Atlanta and was a All-Star. This weekend he backed that performance up with leading his team to the championship but falling short. He displayed skills from the point guard position we didn't see at the camp. He has a great feel for the game and really good court vision that set up his teammates for easy buckets. After seeing him play this past weekend it proves he can play and guard both guard positions.
Abdul Davis, 2018 PG, Georgia Premier: Davis dribbles with his head high and absorbs contact well with his strong chest and shoulders. Despite two nagging injuries Davis helped Georgia Premier defeat the Louisiana Jaguars and the Memphis Eagles Elite.
Andrew Stimpson, 2018 SG, Top Notch Gold: Stimpson scoring from all over the floor this past weekend. He was breaking down the defense off the dribble and finishing at the rim. His ability to knock down the 3-ball was keeping his defenders off balance. He showed that he can play both guard positions which makes him a nice prospect.
Mohammad Abdulsalem, 2018 PF, Georgia United Elite: The best college prospect of the entire event, Abdulsalem was at once powerful and light on his feet. Currently a freshman at Greenforest Christian Academy, Abdulsalem has a ludicrously high ceiling. At 6'8" and around 240 pounds the big man was unguardable down low. Beyond his finishes around the basket, Abdulsalem also ran the floor pretty well. He will not be a perimeter defender, but offensively he shows hints of an emerging face-up game.
Marquavius Carter, 2018 SG, Georgia United Elite: At this point in his basketball journey, Carter is still merging athleticism with production. He floats around the floor with an uncommon ease. This young man will be able to defend any guard and tug down 5+ rebounds per game. Scoring will come. Right now Carter has a one-handed shot that looks more like long range floater than a traditional J.
Jarvis Moll, 2018 SG, Louisiana Jaguars: Moll is a big time slasher who scored in transition and in the halfcourt. He can handle the ball or catch and shoot. He showed a good feel for the game and moved well without the ball. Shooting off the dribble will be the next step in Moll's offensive evolution.
Joshua Mariencheck, 2018 SF, Memphis Eagles Elite: Mariencheck is a long, skilled wing who can play both inside and out. He is a good athlete when attacking the rim and reboundign on both ends of the floor. His best attribute from the weekend was his ability to take his defender and knock down 3's. As he gets stronger look for his skill level to increase. Solid overall performance this past weekend
