Atlanta, GA (Future150) -- Touted as a major addition for the Georgia State Panthers out of high school, athletic guard prospect D'Marcus Simonds continues to prove that he was a high-major talent since his high school days.
The Gainesville High School (GA) 6'4" combo guard first popped onto our radar at our 2013 Future150 Main Event Atlanta Tournament while playing with Heat Check (GA). At the time, this is what I had to say about the tough guard prospect:
"The 6'4" wing proved to be one of the premiere shooting guards in the freshman class in the state of Georgia this past weekend. He scores the basketball well from mid-range as well as long range, with a streaky jumper. He handles the ball well, and doesn't try to do too much on the floor. He is a solid rebounder on both ends, and he does a good job of starting the break after he rebounds."
Since that day, he saw his stock continue to rise throughout the rest of his high school career, and ultimately, the four-star talent flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Georgia State.
Fast forward to today. The combo guard is destroying the Sun Belt Conference in his sophomore season, with averages of 21.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Because of his staggering numbers this season, NBA personnel are keeping tabs of talented guard. After winning 2017 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year along with being named All-Sun Belt Third Team last year, he continues to prove that he's a legitimate NBA option. Will be declare for the 2018 NBA Draft? We'll know in a few short months.
