Eads, TN (Future150) -- Tuesday night, late October, Will Hrubes (TN) ended his college basketball recruitment.

"I'm excited to announce that I have committed to Rockhurst University in Kansas City for basketball! God is good!" tweeted Hrubes.

Hrubes reported his best options were D1 redshirt scholarships like Tennessee Tech and Chattanooga, or the newly-emerging D2 schools.

"I had a visit to Liberty (lined up), but another player committed," said Hrubes.  "It was disappointing.  My AAU coach Ernie Kuiper got Rockhurst in to watch me and they really liked what I displayed.  That was big."

Hrubes probably could have wrangled a D1 scholarship by waiting until the Late Signing Period.

"I had some D1 schools," said Hrubes.  "But I didn't want to play out my senior year undecided, because that would have put a lot of stress on me.  I am glad I can go into my senior year and know where I will go to college."

Why Rockhurst?

The evaluation set up by his AAU coach earned Hrubes an offer and an invitation to visit.

"Well, first of all it is almost in downtown Kansas City," said Hrubes.  "That almost sold me.  The whole area set me off.  The main reason was the Business Program.  They are top ten in the nation in statistics.  They just hired Coach Drew Diener as the head coach.  He is a great guy.  I am almost positive that he will turn the program around."

Rockhurst is under new leadership and needs a change in direction.

"Rockhurst went 3-15 in conference play last year," said Hrubes.  "They fired that coach and hired Coach Diener.  I am very excited that the program is going to take a big step.  The campus was nice.  I met with the professors and they were great.  I roomed with some of the players.  They were really cool.  The accepted me when I was on my visit."

Some D2 schools can offer scholarships and Rockhurst is one of them.  According to Hrubes his tuition will be paid in full.

"I am looking forward to it," said Hrubes.  "I just have to keep on the grind.  Get stronger.  A lot of stress is relieved after tonight.  I am very happy right now."
