Kansas City, MO (Future150) -- In the last several years MoKan Elite has produced some of the country’s most elite talent. MoKan has seen their program push out two NBA lottery picks (Willie Cauley-Stein, Alec Burks) in the last 4 years. It looks as though they have another guard that will soon be an extremely hot commodity on the recruiting trail.
Future150 Alum Jordan Lathon, a 6-foo-4, 175-pound guard will be in his sophomore year at Grandview High School (MO). Jordan has displayed an ability to consistently beat his defender off of the dribble, and an overall mature feel for the game at the point guard position. Lathon’s vision sets him apart as well as he sees well over the defense due to his height advantage while pertaining a wiry, lanky frame.
One of the most intriguing abilities that the athletic point guard possesses is the ability to slide off of the ball and be just as effective as he is on the ball. Some young guards in today’s game can be very ball-dominant, but the 2018 guard showcased the ability to be a combo guard throughout the spring and this fall.
After a eye-opening summer with MoKan Elite, a Nike affiliate in the EYBL that was recently sponsored by Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, Jordan had this to say:
“I feel like I played well and had a productive summer," said Lathon. "Got the opportunity to play against a lot of high level competition which was great.”
Lathon missed the majority of his freshman season at Grandview due to a broken leg he sustained in the fall, which caused him to be somewhat of a surprise when being evaluated on the summer circuit.
Recruitment
As of late, Lathon has garnered interest from schools such as SMU, Wichita State, Nebraska, Stanford, Missouri, and Virginia Tech, among others. Lathon most recently took an unofficial visit to Wichita State, and was visited by assistants from Virginia Tech and Nebraska.
“Being recruited has always been something I dreamed about and seeing it first hand has been a blessing," said Lathon. "As it stands, I have a few more unofficial visits I’m working on getting scheduled, but Wichita State is recruiting me the hardest.”
Lathon is potentially one of the elite prospects in a loaded 2018 class that oozes with star potential. Look for him to build off of the momentum he has gathered this fall into his high school basketball season as Grandview will be a contender in the Kansas City-area as long as Lathon is at the helm.
