Concord, NC (Future150) -- North Carolina is notorious for putting out high major talent year in and year out. Throughout all this buzz of big time talent in the Tar Heel state, a lot of very good D2/low-major prospects tend to get overlooked.
2017 CG Francis Sio seems to be one of those guys who may be getting a bit overlooked this season. When most people hear Cox Mill basketball they automatically think of elite Sophomore Wendell Moore, but there is another player deserving of more than just local buzz on the Chargers roster.
Sio has been the undaunted leader of the Chargers team this season and the 6'0" senior has led his squad to a 12-5 record so far this season while putting up very good averages of 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.
"Senior year has been really good, been playing well, and we've had a lot of success," Sio said.
He has definitely had a lot more attention put on him by opposing teams this year than ever before, and he contributes most of his improvement by what he did during the offseason.
"Honestly I just put in a lot of work, and trusted all the time I put in," Sio told Future150. "I really worked on my foot speed, ball-handling, athleticism, and decision making."
The work is paying of for Sio has he has already landed his first offer from D2 Lees-McRae and has seen interest from UNC-Pembroke, and Newberry College. He has confidence in his game and believes he can contribute to a team right away after his high school playing days are over.
"I feel like I can be a leader on any team. I play defense, I can score, get people where they need to be, and make the right play. Anything they ask of me, I'm willing to do on the court."
Sio will continue his big time senior season at Cox Mill, and may continue to fly under the radar, but whichever D2/low-major program ends up with him will be getting an absolute steal.
Stay locked in with Future150 as we continue to track Sio's final high school season and recruitment process.
