Orlando, FL (Future150) -- In a time where more and more point guards are more score first, pass later types, Orlando Christian Prep’s Ronaldo Segu’s game stands out. A 6-foot, 160 pound floor general, Segu has turned in an impressive start to the high school season.
The Orlando native first made a name for himself last spring on the AAU circuit thanks to his smooth handle and ability to create off the dribble. What mixtapes don’t show is his ability to be a lock down defender and the fact that he is seemingly always barking out orders on the floor. Because of that, Segu is one of the unquestioned leaders at OCP.
“It’s really good playing with these guys and I enjoy every moment of it. I really like to pass first and create for other people and I’m definitely a pass-first type of point guard,” he said.
With the way today’s game is being played, guards like Segu are becoming scarce, meaning he could be more valuable to the right college program.
FSU, ECU, FIU, Murray State and UAB have all offered, while VCU and UMass have been the latest programs to show interest, with UMass making the trip down to see Segu in Florida at the end of December.
Despite still being on the earlier side of his recruitment, “Rondo” knows exactly what he’s looking for at the next level.
“I’m just paying attention to how coaches talk to me and how I would fit into their program, what kind of opportunity there is my freshman year. I’ve been watching a lot of college basketball this year and trying to see how I would fit into each program,” he said.
OCP doesn’t play a big national schedule, so Segu’s breakout on the national stage will have to wait until AAU season, where he will suit up with his teammate Nassir Little and Showtime Hoops. Look for him to rack up a number of offers coming out of the spring live periods.
