Chicago, IL (Future150) -- For a long time Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor had been considered a package deal. On Friday it finally came to fruition as both players selected Duke via simulcast. The Blue Devils had been recruiting them hard and beat out the likes of Kansas and Baylor for the duo. While Baylor was on the outside looking in, there was mounting speculation that Kansas would be the destination for the two in the days leading up to the commitment.
Landing these two will give Duke one of the best one-two punches in the country next season and likely another one-and-done talent in Okafor. Jones is a pass first point guard who doesn’t get sped up and rarely makes bad decisions. Okafor is a polished big man with great hands and footwork.
Along with signee Grayson Allen and the returning talent on the roster, it will be no surprise that Duke will once again be an early favorite to win a national championship. On the off chance that Jabari Parker stays for a 2nd year, the Blue Devils would be the odds-on favorite to win it all.
"I felt more comfortable to play with the winning-est coach in college basketball" Jahlil said when asked why Duke was their decision. “His (coach K’s) message to us what that it was special for us to go to the same university together,” he added.
They will come in and give Duke two impact players at arguably the most important positions in the college game. Next up for Duke will be attempting to land Justise Winslow. If they Blue Devils can pull that off they will wrap up what should be the #1 overall class in the country.
