Manalapan, NJ (Future150) -- Elevate Hoops has gained quite the reputation for bringing in serious talent for their events over the past several years, and the 2017 Spring Showdown was no different. With plenty of college coaches in the gym, several prospects impressed our staff, and their recruitments should drastically change because of their performances.
Austin McCullough, 2017 SG, Greenwood Elite (MI): Coming into the event with an impressive 3.97 GPA, the 6'5" wing let his game do the talking in New Jersey. A knockdown shooter who can heat up in a hurry, there's no doubt that he's going to see a serious bump in his recruitment after his weekend at Elevate Spring Showdown. In an event built to expose prospects to college coaches, the sharp-shooter from Michigan was the breakout star this past weekend.
Kenny Jones, 2018 PG, Jersey Force (NJ): The 6'1" point guard became a hot commodity at the end of last summer, and has continued his strong play to start this AAU season. Monmouth, NJIT & Princeton are all working hard on the floor general who thrives when attacking the rim, and with a few more strong outings, more schools should jump into the ring for his services.
Abdoul-Mounir Mohamadou Hima, 2020 PF, NJ Roadrunners (NJ): Get used to hearing about the recent import from France, because the 6'10" big man is going to become a hot commodity in the United States. While his game is quite raw right now, the flashes he showed over the weekend suggest that he's going to evolve into a bonafide high-major target and a potentially nationally ranked prospect.
Cashius McNeilly, 2020 SG, Canada Elite (CAN): One of the emerging stars in the national class of 2020, the 6'4" combo guard looked the part in New Jersey. A smooth operator from either guard position, he has all the tools to become a star down the road. He's a skilled finisher around the rim, he's a relatively good perimeter shooter & he has solid athleticism necessary to compete, and thrive at the highest level.
Jai Smith, 2021 PF, New York Dragons (NY): One of the elite prospects in the class of 2021, the Syracuse native had his moments over the weekend. Already standing 6'7", the post prospect has soft touch around the rim and rebounds very well on both ends. Coordination and strength are obviously areas of improvment as he goes forward, but there's so much to like about the New York prospect, and he should continue to trend upward as his eighth grade year comes to a close.
Wesley Butler, 2019 PG, Team Final Red (PA): Fresh off a high school state championship at Reading High School (PA), the 6-footer will be given the keys to the program next year with Lonnie Walker heading to Miami (FL). He's getting good practice so far this AAU season, as he had a solid showing at Spring Showdown. He thrives on creating contact on his way to the rim, and he loves to get to the free-throw line. He also defends at a high level.
Jared Kimbrough, 2018 PF, Jersey Force (NJ): The 6'7" power forward uses his long arms and high motor to play much bigger, and he's proven to be one of the most effective post prospects in the Northeast region over the past year. A talented scorer and rebounder, he's garnered scholarship offers already this month from Fairleigh Dickinson, Iona & Monmouth, after earning one in February from LaSalle. His stock will continue to rise this AAU season if his strong play continues, which we're betting it will.
Julius Ellerbe, 2021 SG, New World (MD): The stock of the 6'4" wing continues to rise after his strong winter, and now, he has started his spring strong as well. An explosive and long wing, he's shown that he's a talented slasher and passer, and when his jump shot is falling, his game goes to another level. Early on, he looks like a high-major recruit, and should see his stock continue to rise throughout the summer.
