Atlanta, GA (Future150) -- The Heat Check AAU program has been one of the most successful AAU teams in the 2016 division the past few years, and today was another big day for the program.
2016 Buford (GA) shooting guard D’Marcus Simonds picked up his first of many offers today, as Mississippi State offered him while he was on campus for their game against Ole Miss.
As expected, the sophomore was very exciting about his scholarship offer from the Bulldogs.
“It feels great [to receive my first offer]. It is the best feeling knowing that a college coach believes you are a good enough player to play high-major basketball and impact the game,” Simonds told Future150.com.
Simonds was also very impressed with Mississippi State during his visit. He likes a lot about the program under Rick Ray.
“I like the coaching staff and the offense they run. It felt like home, not all the city lights and flash. I loved the enthusiasm that fans had about the game, too.”
Despite this being his first offer, several other schools are tracking Simonds to this point. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Charlotte, and Houston are the latest schools to show interest.
Simonds has been a standout at several Future150 events, where he has been able to showcase his all-around game. The 6-foot-4 guard doesn’t force things on the floor and he is automatic from mid-range.
He has been doing a little bit of everything so far this season for his high school team.
“I like to do whatever I have to do to help my team win. Whether it is scoring, passing, defense, or even just cheering while I’m in foul trouble, I try to be the best leader out there,” he explained.
Expect more offers to trickle in for Simonds as he begins to take more visits.
