Pittsburgh, PA (Future150) -- The second day of the Hoopgroup PittJamfest was one that saw thirteen sets of games. As one might think, we got to see a lot more players and watched a lot more games; from 8 AM to 10 PM Future150 was able to see the best of what the U-16 and U-17 teams the field had to offer. Here are a few players that really stuck out throughout the day:
Jeff Holland, 2014 SG, Crusader Nation: Holland was one of the bigger surprises of the day. While playing against teams such as Baltimore’s Finest and others he averaged 16 points a game over three contests. He showed off his stroke from beyond the arc while also being able to score off the bounce and getting his teammates involved. Right now Bucknell is the only school involved, look for that to change soon.
Johnathan Williams, 2014 PG, Team Loaded: On a team that features Cody and Caleb Martin it is easy to be overlooked. It’s time that people stop overlooking this talented lead guard. Although he is only 6’0 at this point he is lightning quick and it’s impossible to keep him out of the lane with just one defender. He is able to finish with an arsenal of layups and floaters as well as a mid-range jump shot. He won’t wow you with his passing but seemingly always makes the right pass. Right now Wisconsin and VCU are involved among others.
Devin Williams, 2013 PF, Ohio Basketball Club: Devin might be one of the hardest working big men in the class of 2013. He is a relentless rebounder and attacks the rim with ferocity despite being a below-the-rim-player. Recently he has begun to work on a mid-range jumper as well as refine his post moves. Once those two things catch up with the rest of the game he will be an absolute nightmare to guard.
KaMall Richards, 2012 SF/SG, ECE/NJABC: One of the better players in the class of 2012 available, there is the possibility that he could prep and reclassify to 2013. The wing played well against Dorian’s Pride, pouring in 21 points in a variety of ways. He is a bit of a tweener at the next level but there is no doubt about his ability to put the ball in the hoop.
Aaron Harrison, 2013 SG, Houston Defenders: When you are ranked as high as Harrison is a lot is expected of you. Aaron more than lived up to the billing, as it was impossible to stop him from getting to the rim and often times he drew fouls, ultimately drawing 10 fouls on Philly’s Finest and Rysheed Jordan. In a close game he ended up being the difference maker, scoring 20 including 7/8 from the charity stripe.
Logan McLane, 2014 SF, SC Raptors Elite: Few players who are 6’8 can pass as well as this lefty sophomore. Time and time again he found his open teammates with bounce passes from just over half court, and three quarter court outlets to easy baskets. McLane is more than just a passer though, as he was able to put the ball on the floor and score and he is an above average rebounder as well. Stanford, George Mason, and Iowa are all already involved and he mentioned that UNC is his dream school.
Jermaine Lawrence, 2013 PF, New Rens: Lawrence has added yet another piece to his burgeoning game as he stepped out and hit threes with consistency against D.C. Assault –Farrington. He is quick enough that he blows by bigger defenders and strong enough to post the smaller defenders, but adding a three point shot, it makes him even more dangerous.
Dwayne Morgan, 2014 SF, Bmore Finest: Morgan had a big stage last night as Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon was on hand to watch him and he didn’t disappoint. Morgan is a matchup nightmare already as he likes to step out and shoot from the foul line as well as post. Right now he can play both forward positions at the 16’s level, but due to his small frame he will need to add muscle on in order to fulfill his potential. That being said he almost had a double-double in his game against Virgina Assault, a team that had two big men that where bigger than him which is impressive.
