Nashville, TN (Future150) -- This past October, prospects from all over the country headed to Nashville, Tennessee in order to attend the Future150 national camp with hopes of being noticed by the staff. One of the more impressive players in camp was Mississippi native Devon Benson.
The 2016 combo-forward showed the ability to face up and attack the rim as well as score with his back to the basket. What made him stand out more than anything though was his overall effort and work ethic.
“The camp was a great experience and really gave me a lot more confidence and improved my basketball IQ,” Devon said of his experience in Nashville.
“Playing with an elite guard like Jerron [Love] and learning from coach Brian and coach Eric as well as them telling me to play my game really made me a lot more confident,” he added.
Despite being a top 20 player and standout at the camp, Benson has yet to hear from a division one program. After seeing him play, it is easy to say that it’s only a matter of time before colleges recognize his talent, as it’s baffling that none have to this point.
While he is still transitioning into more of a face-up four man it is clear he has the physical tools to do so. His jump shot is improving and he seemingly got better by the hour at national camp. A kid with his physical gifts and motor will do nothing but succeed.
So don’t sleep on Devon Benson, he could just be leading a mid-major school on a Cinderella run in the NCAA tournament one day. He has the tools and work ethic to do just that.
