Alexandria, VA (Future150) -- 2017 CG Denmark Slay of St. Stephens St. Agnes (VA) only has one D1 offer to his name, his style of play and talent is a perfect fit for a mid-major program. Other schools are starting to realize the potential he has and have been showing plenty of interest lately.
"I have an offer from St. Francis (PA), while Holy Cross, NJIT, Quinnipiac, Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris, and VMI have all been showing the most interest lately," Slay said.
Slay is a pure playmaker, his on-ball defense and rebounding abilities are very good for a player just under six foot tall. He is more of a shooting guard, but he can certainly bring the ball down the court and set up the offense if you needed him too.
"He has really made strides in his ability to attack the paint and be a playmaker for his teammates," Said Coach Ginyard of St. Stephens St. Agnes. "This added skill has made him very difficult to defend this season."
His on court leadership is another thing you will notice when he's on the floor with his team. Overall he is a utility guard that is one of those players that you don't want to keep on your bench for long if it's a close battle.
"He is a willing vocal leader, and his high level of energy is contagious," Ginyard said. "Denmark believes in doing everything he can to help his team win games, and he competes with a mindset of team first."
Slay knows he has what it takes for the next level and realizes what could help him thrive when playing division one college basketball.
"My defensive tenacity, and guarding the opposing team's best (guard)," Slay said. "As well as being able to create scoring oppurtunities for my teammates and for myself."
Slay is certainly poised to breakout soon and should add plenty of offers to his list. Stay tuned as we continue to track his progress throughout his final two years in high school.
