Atlanta, GA (Future150) -- In an era highlighted by crazy dunks and no-look passes, defense is a thing of the past to most high school kids. Despite an occasional blocked shot, defensive play has steadily gotten worse over the years.
While Demyon Greenwood, a junior enrolled at Salem High School in Conyers, Georgia, could be the same as his peers, he looks at defense from a different perspective.
"One of my strengths is that I'm an annoying player on defense," he told Future150. "I will do anything to get the ball and prevent my man from scoring."
In the fall, Greenwood proved his defensive mentality while participating at the Future150 Atlanta camp. At 6-foot-5, he utilized his length and athleticism to block shots, but he also showed he has the confidence to be a lock-down defender.
This defensive knack has helped Salem High to a record of 4-1 thus far in the season. Greenwood and his teammates are determined to keep the winning trend alive, though.
"Our team has a lot more winning to go this season. I want to be the best player I can be and help my team make it to the state championship."
Like every other realistic player, the 2014 prospect knows he still has a ways to go to be the best player he can be. At this stage in his development, Greenwood's defense reigns over his offense. But with time, things could change.
"I know I need to work on my shooting form and getting my shot off quicker. Right now, I'm using my height to score on smaller players and my quickness to score on bigger players."
With Greenwood's defensive mentality, could Salem represent Conyers in the Georgia state tournament?
Time will tell, but with this young man's mentality, anything can happen.
