Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- Zach Lyon contributed to this report.
Grant Williams (2016) just pulled in a Boston University offer. The Boston Terriers are coming off a 13-17 season in the respected Patriot League. Head Coach Joe Jones would readily admit it was not his program's best season, but they do return both Co-MVP's in Cedric Hankerson and John Papale.
"I really only received an offer and learned a bit about the school," said Williams.
At 6'7" Williams is woefully under-recruited, as evidenced by his Sun Belt and Southern Conference pursuers.
If life were fair Williams would be aggressively pursued by high majors, equally as aggressively as he works every single play. Williams might have the highest motor of any big on the EYBL Circuit. The work rate is remarkable. Forget that he is amongst the heaviest, most powerful forwards in the nation.
For stretches in Lexington (EYBL) Williams was the best player on a league-favorite Team CP3.
He chased down and blocked Trent Forrest (FSU verbal) from behind. To be clear that play represents a 250-pound man hunting and catching a 190-pound four-star guard in the open floor.
The Safari doesn't contain predators so fearsome.
Another Offer
Today Boston U. also offered SF Justin Pierce (IL).
Back in April, Future150 talked with Pierce's AAU Coach Dave Ruggles.
"Boston University has come in to see him multiple times," said Ruggles. "And he has visited there. They are apparently very close to offering. Northeastern has come out to see him. Valparaiso is expressing serious interest."
Today Coach Ruggles updated the recruitment from Boston University and unveiled the new schools popping up.
"He is hearing a lot from Yale, William & Mary," said Coach Ruggles. "They are all over him. Belmont has been on him. Furman has been on him hard. We haven't heard anything from Valpo in awhile. Northern Iowa is on him, definitely."
Ruggles has great size for the position. He plays for a team that stresses skill development. And he has good grades. July will be his oyster.
Still new entrants will have to contend with Boston University.
"They got on him just about a year ago," said Coach Ruggles. "They were the first school to come in. I think they came out two more times for open gyms.
First in the door makes a difference, says Coach Ruggles.
"They are going to get one of his official visits," said Coach Ruggles. "That is a fact. It just shows loyalty to the kids. When it is the first offer that is the school they are loyal to. They certainly give them every opportunity to bring them in. They have certainly done a great job distancing themselves."
