Brookville, NY (Future150) -- Chris Atkinson is a basketball player, plain and simple. Despite standing just 5-foot-9, it is obvious that the point guard is talented and has plenty of potential.
During this past spring and summer, Atkinson suited up with a Team Scan (NY) squad that was loaded. Thomas Bryant, Chance Ellis, and Devonte Green served as the major weapons, and the emergence of center Chieck Diallo this summer made them all the more talented.
It was on Atkinson to run the show with this talented group, which he did well. Still, with the amount of elite talent around him, it seemed as though Chris was content to just distribute; a sign of maturity beyond his years.
Fast forward to this high school season and Atkinson is proving he can be a scorer as well. On arguably the best team in the state, Atkinson has teamed up with UConn commit Kentan Facey to form a solid inside-out duo at Long Island Lutheran (NY).
He was impressive in a recent victory against a Lincoln (NY) squad that features 2014 standout Isaiah Whitehead, and is seemingly getting better all the time. At the Big Apple Basketball Invitational he poured in 23 points while shooting 5-for-8 from three.
"I just do whatever my team needs me to do," Chris said. " With Scan I need to play the point more, here I score more, I can do both,"
At this point it is hard to argue with the Long Island product. Chris says he's not focusing on his recruitment just yet, but a strong season on the AAU circuit with the high profile Team Scan should solidify him as a high-major target going forward.
