Suwanee, GA (Future150) -- Zachary Lyon contributed to this report.
The annual Best of the South event attracted numerous elite NIKE, adidas, and Unaffiliated AAU programs to northeast Atlanta. Despite the event's strong southeastern presence a surprising number of Midwestern teams advanced to the semifinal round.
16u Semifinals
Florida Elite 51- Travelers 44
This game presented so many unique matchups like Chris Vogt versus Chol Marial in the post.
Vogt is a lanky junior-to-be, while Marial is entering high school in the fall. Together they might have 10% body fat combined.
It was a rare opportunity for Vogt to really rough up his defender. Vogt is almost always the lankier pivot, but Marial is rail-thin at this stage.
Vogt gave up five inches to Marial.
Early in the second half Marial ran the floor, adjusted to a poor pass, collected, and then finished with ease. His body control is incredible. Forget that his neck starts at your head and that he can touch the rim while standing.
Marial needs to develop his touch on hook shots a little. His free throws are exceptionally pure. A couple of times he knocked down outside shots. The future of this teenager is scary to imagine.
Vogt managed eight points. It was the scrappiest game Vogt has played in front of Future150 in his career. The center has plenty of potential and is now starting to realize it.
For Florida Elite numerous high major targets excelled. Dual-sport star, Nikolas Bonitto pumped in eight points. Louis Benjai contributed 11 points. An unlikely source of scoring was Kevin Blaser. The Swiss-born wing had a breakout week.
Louisville Magic 62- All-Ohio Red 57
The 16u semifinal was spectacular. It is rare that a proud adidas franchise like the Magic gets to butt heads with a NIKE-staple like All-Ohio Red.
