Birmingham, AL (Future150) -- Like every other Saturday, 2014 Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) shooting guard Jarvis Calhoun spent his day at UAB for their home basketball game. However, on this day, things were different.

Following the Blazers' victory over SMU today, Calhoun gave his verbal commitment to Jerod Haase's squad.

"It's just a great fit for me," Calhoun told Future150.com. "I began my official visit on Friday, and I know Coach [Jerod] Haase is going to bring in some players around me, so it's all good."

The Birmingham native is UAB's first commitment for the Class of 2014, but they are involved with several other top prospects in the Southeast. Calhoun expects others to follow soon.

"I think we are looking good with Shane Hall, too. The 2013 and 2014 classes are going to be stacked."

While it is still early for Calhoun, he is very comfortable with his decision. As noted, he attended several UAB games this season.

"This wasn't rushed for me. I know it's a good fit," he said.

Calhoun was also considering Murray State, along with other schools.

He is a four-star according to Future150 and is ranked No. 96 in the 2014 Future150 Rankings.

These young men have really worked hard. Let’s continue to support them and keep the negative comments to ourselves. Congratulations to all and keep up the good work !
