Madison, MS (Future150) -- Heading into last fall, Madison Central (Miss.) shooting guard Leroy “Shaq” Buchanan was a rather unknown name on the high school basketball circuit. However, things changed when he attended the Future150 Camp in Birmingham.
With his impressive performance, highlighted by some impressive athleticism and knack for scoring the basketball, Buchanan was named the No.2 player in the camp. He also went on to be named a Future150 All-American.
“My biggest strength is getting to the rim and finishing through contact,” Buchanan told Future150.com. “I’m a finisher.”
Several schools are already hot on his trail. Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Southern, and Murray State are schools that have expressed interest thus far. However, expect that number of schools to increase in the spring.
Buchanan’s ability to score the basketball, as well as his willingness to defend, will help him tie down several scholarship offers heading into his senior year.
As of now, one school’s persistent contact is sticking out for the gifted guard. It is still early, though.
“Tulane is coming at me the hardest. They send mail every day.”
He will also make the big move to the EYBL and run with the Jackson Tigers this AAU season.
Buchanan is a three-star recruit and ranked No. 135 in the 2015 Future150 rankings.
