Jacksonville, FL (Future150) -- The state of Florida has always been a competitive basketball place, and as the talent continues to grow in the Sunshine State, so does the competition.
Brian Johnson, a 6-foot-7 Future150 Camp alum, is embracing the tough competition so far. At this point in the season, he has helped lead his Creekside High squad to a 10-8 record.
“We are 10-8 right now, but we’ve played a lot of great teams so far,” he told Future150.com. “Even with our record, we are still in first place in our district.”
While Johnson will be quick to point out that he is by no means a star, he is one of the main reasons why his team has found success thus far.
“My strengths would have to be my face-up post game, but I have also been improving my three-point shooting. My weakness is perimeter defense and quickness.”
Johnson showed his worth back in the fall at the Future150 Atlanta Camp, where he stood out because of his toughness and dirty work. He rebounded at a very high rate, along with showing off his fundamentally sound game from the post. Because of that, he compares himself to a much known NBA player.
“I’d compare my game to Kevin Love. We do a lot of the same things,” he explained.
Throughout the year, Johnson has drawn interest from several Division-II schools in the Florida area. Embry Riddle, St. Michael's, Flagler, Chowan, Clarke, Lynchberg, Johnson & Wales, Santa Fe Community, along with Jacksonville University, have shown interest.
However, he is focused on the task at hand, and the recruitment will take the back-seat.
“We plan to accomplish a district champion and go as far in the playoffs as possible.”
