Charlottesville, VA (Future150) -- Utah isn’t necessarily a hot spot state for basketball recruits, but every now and then, there are a few diamonds in the rough. With names like T.J. Haws and Nick Emery already in the spotlight, things are just getting started for Brekkott Chapman.
Chapman, a 6-foot-8 forward out of Roy, Utah, is becoming quite a popular player on the west coast. Already with a number of high-major offers, he will add more in the month of July.
“I have offers from BYU, Utah, Utah State, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Gonzaga, and San Francisco,” he told Future150.com. “I had an offer from UCLA under the old coaching staff, but I am still waiting on the new staff to offer me.”
In order to have a decision set by the end of July, Chapman will need to take a few visits in the future.
“I have no visits planned as of right now, but I have already taken unofficial visits to BYU, Utah, Utah State, and UCLA.”
While at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, Chapman was a very difficult matchup for other players. With his length and versatility, he used the stage to showcase his skills and prove he is one of the elite players in his class. Versatility is something the rising senior feels is valuable to his game.
“My strength is definitely my versatility. I can bang down low with big men and hang with guards on the outside. I can do both pretty well,” he explained.
Chapman has no exact timetable for a college decision, but he does know some factors that will contribute to his future.
“I want a home environment and I want to know and trust the coaches really well. That will be big for me.”
Chapman is a four-star according to Future150 and comes in at No. 51 in the 2014 Future150 rankings.
