Sacramento, CA (Future150) -- The recent success of the San Diego State Aztecs basketball program has translated to sucess on the recruiting trail as well. After landing a commitment from local prospect and top 100 recruit Trey Kell last month, they reeled in an even bigger fish Wednesday night.
Small forward Malik Pope of Laguna Creek (CA), Future150's #27 prospect nationally in the 2014 class, pledged to SDSU, making him the highest profile recruit to ever sign with the program.
The 6-foot-8 wing is one of the most athletic prospects in the country, one with perimeter skills and the ability to put the ball on the floor.
Despite breaking his leg twice in the past two years, his upside rivals any prospect in his class.
He picked the Aztecs over Kansas, Gonzaga, Arizona, UCLA, USC, Washington, Oregon, and California.
With pledges from Pope, Kell, and Kevin Zabo, San Diego State has one of the most loaded 2014 recruiting classes nationally, and they aren't done yet.
They are in the running for 6-foot-7 small forward Zylan Cheatham, ranked as the #67 prospect in the class. He has narrowed his finalists to Arizona State, New Mexico, San Diego State, and Washington.
