Haltom, TX (Future150) -- Historically, the Haltom High Buffaloes boys basketball team has been the red-headed step child. Haltom is located in suburban Fort Worth. When people think of high school basketball teams in Fort Worth the names Dunbar and Nolan are the two that come to mind. This has been the case for years.

In this third year, Head Coach Todd Shelton has the athletes, the size, and the ability to change that perception. With the realignment of classifications in the state of Texas, Haltom has moved up to 6A district 7, matching them up with bigger suburban teams that are notoriously known for their dominance in football.

As a 6’7 power forward Andrew Stafford (Class of 2015) is leading the charge for the Buffaloes this season.

"Andrew is very long and can play both inside and outside.  He is an all around scorer but needs to make his free throws and understand that he can actually dominate the entire game," says Coach Shelton.

Stafford is averaging almost 18 points per game and eight rebounds.

Alongside of Stafford is another 6-foot-7 forward from the class of 2015.  Kevin Ricks sat out four games due to a strained hamstring.

"Ricks is a slasher, and has a great mid range jumper and can finish with authority,” said Coach Shelton.  "Kevin has a quick first jump allowing him to explode for rebounds and block shots."

Ricks’ injury isn’t as debilitating as a four game absence suggests. Coach Shelton is making sure he is fully healthy so the Buffaloes can make a good run in league play. The Buffaloes are off to a great start at 6-2 heading into the holiday break. Look for the Haltom Buffaloes to make some noise this season.
