Every year it seems as if the Slam-N-Jam Preview field continues to get better and better, and this year continues the trend as a loaded set list of teams from across the state come to Whitehall High School on Friday, Nov. 25. There may only be two quarters for each game, but there would not be much surprise if West Virginia-signee Esa Ahmad could pull down a double-double in just 16 minutes on Friday. Ahmad and Shaker will take on a rising Groveport squad that will contend in a strong OCC-Ohio this season.
Pickerington North, led by new head coach Jason Bates, will take on the host squad Whitehall in the next game, and will hope to build towards a strong season, as the Panthers went just 3-20 last season. Fellow Ohio Capital Conference member Dublin Jerome, led by junior Mason Baich, will face Cincinnati Taft in the 8:15 slot. The Celtics will not surprise anyone this year, as they made a splash taking OCC-Capital champion Delaware to the wire in the second round of the tournament last season.
The game of the night might be at 9 p.m., as Huber Heights Wayne and Dayton-signee Xeryius Williams will take on Thurgood Marshall. Wayne is one of the favorites in Division I this season, and will not be at full-strength till their football season is over. Thurgood Marshall features guard D.J. Hoskins and big man Derrick Daniels, both holding major scholarship offers and will help the Cougars be a threat in Division II. The nightcap features hometown Pickerington Central and new transfer Ibi Watson taking on Springfield. This will be the first full season for head coach Eric Kreuger and there is no doubt the Tigers will be a threat to return to the Schottenstein Center late in March.
