Huntsville, AL (Future150) -- Looks can be deceiving. Just ask Chapman Middle School (AL) point guard Alondras Strong.
Most of the time, the 5-foot-4, 130-pound rising eigth grader walks onto the court and is immediately dismissed as a serious threat by his opponents.
However, as soon as the the game starts, the opposition learns the hard way. He is a jet-quick point guard who thrives at getting by his defenders with a devastating first step.
He also is a knock-down shooter with confidence well beyond his years. What really sets him apart though, is his drive to win and succeed at the game of basketball.
In every game he plays in, he is visibly the most intense player on the court, which I had the chance to ask him about.
"Just my love for the game, my passion to want to get better, my will to win and also just knowing that any game can be your last so you have to go hard all the time because you never know who is watching."
On the basketball court, his biggest strengths are what made him the catalyst for Chapman Middle School's team that went 30-4 this season on the way to a city championship.
"My strengths on the basketball court are my ball-handling, court vision and leadership."
His 16 points and six assists per game also made him stand out.
When you see Alondras play in person, there is a highly regarded professional player that you soon realize he resembles.
"I really don't model myself after anybody but I've heard Brandon Jennings because of my court vision and speed."
The blur from Alabama is taking his game national this summer while suiting up for Team Wigg, and if you don't look quickly enough, you may not catch him.
