New Orleans, LA (Future150) -- More often than not, the past gives a great indicator of what the future holds.
"The most talented prospect on the New Orleans based team is point guard Jared Butler. The diminuative lead guard has excellent burst with the ball in his hands. He accelerates to get into the lane at will, and has a lethal outside jump shot. Very charismatic point guard who always gets the job done."
That's what I wrote about Jared Butler back in 2013 when he was just a 7th grader playing for New Orleans Revolution. The charismatic young guard stayed the course, honing his skills while growing into his frame in order to become a sought-after high-major recruit.
On Monday, he chose the destination for the next chapter of his basketball career, picking Alabama over Baylor & Virginia. What are the Tide getting in the 6'2", 180-pounder?
Well, first and foremost, he's an excellent leader who is vocal on the floor. He's also a highly skilled shooter who can get into the lane to create for himself and others. Within the past year, he's really started to grow into his athleticism as well, making him a perfect candidate to be the floor leader of the future for the Alabama program.
With Collin Sexton likely leaving for the NBA after just one season in Tuscaloosa, Butler should be able to slide right in and fit with the abundance of talent remaining on the roster.
