Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- Abdul Malik-Abu has had on heck of a year. A power forward who was little known outside of the Northeast, Abdul has seen his stock rise dramatically. Now the post is being recruited by a majority of the elite programs around the country.
“I’m being recruited by the SEC, ACC, A-10, Big East, Big XI, and B1G. I don’t want to leave anyone out because I don’t want to get in trouble,” Malik-Abu said laughingly. Duke, Kansas, Florida, UConn, and Iowa State are just some of the many schools who have been in contact. While the big man is all smiles off the court, once he steps on the hardwood he is all business.
A 6-foot-7 bruising forward, Abdul also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, or step out and hit the three ball. He possesses a motor that seemingly never stops running. That is what makes him one of the better rebounders in the EYBL.
Like his AAU team, Expressions, Malik-Abu had to make a transition to the competition of the EYBL circuit during their first season as a Nike sponsored team. “Man, we didn’t know what to think coming in, I think we surprised a lot of people though. Playing in the EYBL is just great,” he said. With Peach Jam set to start early next month Abdul and his teammates are getting ready.
Malik-Abu has also talked about teaming with Jared Terrell, his teammate with Expressions, at the college level. In that respect, UConn, Kansas, Florida, and Iowa State are all in good position. Whoever ends up getting the talented forward will be getting an elite two-way player who never stops working; in short, he’s every coaches dream.
