Memphis, TN (Future150) -- As we get closer to the Future150 Birmingham Main Event AAU tournament on April 5-7th, 2013 at Samford University, we will be taking a closer look at some of the AAU programs who will be in attendance.
First up will be the Memphis Falcons program, which is coached and founded by Daniel Barton.
He will be bringing both of his 17U programs, Memphis Falcons Red and Memphis Falcons Black, to our tournament.
One of the spotlight players for his Falcons Red team is Future150 alum Brennan Bowling. The 6'2" shooting guard already has an offer from Division II Harding University. He is also hearing from Arkansas Tech and Jacksonville State.
For the Falcons Black team, they feature 6'7" WF Harrison Deneka. The Christian Brothers High School star is a lights out shooter. The lefty is currently garnering interest from Alabama-Huntsville and Millsaps College. Another player to watch out for is Jarvis Green of Fayette Ware High School. The 6'7" power forward is currently hearing from South Carolina State.
Coach Barton initially created his program as an outlet for his younger brother and similar players of his caliber in order to help them get noticed by college coaches. It started three years ago as a church league team, but he decided he wanted to make the Falcons a full-fledged AAU program.
“The reason I started this whole program was to provide the lesser known players an opportunity to compete against big name kids and get them exposure. We make college packs for them and try to get them into appropriate schools for their talent level. We try to provide an opportunity for kids who don’t get all the national attention,” he told Future150.
The class of 2013 is coach Barton's first graduating class of kids, and it looks like his program is helping local kids to succeed. Rabasa Turner of St. Benedict at Auburndale High School will most likely be headed to Rhodes College to continue his playing career next season. He also has another prospect who will be headed to the University of Memphis in the fall to play football.
While their AAU schedule for 2013 has yet to be completely determined, if you are facing the Memphis Falcons in a tournament, you will know what to expect.
“We are a very fundanmentally sound group. Defensive first, defensive minded players. We are so deep that we can play intense basketball for the duration of every game. Tough, hard- nosed basketball,” coach Barton told me.
Look out for the Memphis Falcons this AAU season!
