Mid State Elite Takes Home 17U Title

Hoover, AL (Future150) -- The Future150 Grand Finale was held this weekend in Hoover, Alabama with more than 40 teams in the field. Over the two-day event, our staff identified and scouted hundreds of athletes from the 2020-2026 recruiting classes. Here are the highlights from the 17U division:

Gold Championship Recap:

MSE took home the 17U Gold title in a game against the Memphis Royals, winning 69-46. Strong first half performances from Michael Wallace and Tyrone Marshall helped MSE secure a 40-25 lead at halftime.

Despite good scoring efforts from Jordan Flowers and Charles Wilson in the second half, the Memphis Royals were unable to mount a comeback.

Silver Championship Recap:

The Monroe Lightning secured the 17U Silver championship against the MS Hawks Elite in a 62-43 win.

The Lightning were led by Quatarious Jones, who scored 12 points in the first half, helping lead them to a 40-28 lead.

Gabriel Williams had a strong performance for MS Hawks Elite, but the team was unable to keep pace with the Lighting’s offense.

First Team All-Tournament

Ametri Moss - 2020, G (MSE) Moss is a good shooter off the dribble, finishes through contact and distributes to his teammates. He is a solid point guard who can run the team well. Throughout the tournament, he was a crucial part of MSE's run.

Gabriel Williams - 2020, G (MS Hawks Elite) Williams is a good scorer from every level. His length allows him to stay in passing lanes, making him a great defender. As a great two-way player, Williams contributed in every game he played.

Jordan Flowers - 2020, F (Memphis Royals) Flowers is an amazing slasher and a ferocious defender. He has a high intensity style and an attacking mindset. His impact can be felt for the full game as he makes an impact of offense and defense.

Michael Wallace - 2020. F (MSE) Wallace is an excellent rim protector who uses his great speed and athleticism. He is an aggressive defender who can also get to the rim on the offensive end. On offense he provides consistent scoring from the interior.  He takes home Tournament MVP.

Quatarious Jones - 2020, C (Monroe Lightning) Jones is an athletic big man who can rim protect or run the floor in transition for his team. On offense he can stretch the floor and provides great scoring. He also shows good skills with the ball in his hands for a center. 

Honorable Mention:

Malik Moore- 2020 F  (Memphis Royals) Moore is a tough player with a good jumpshot. He is a fierce competitor on both ends of the floor. He contributed to his team’s success through each game.

Larry Holmes- 2020 G (Nike Elite Stars) Holmes is a tough all-around player who has no major weaknesses. He loves getting down hill on his defenders and finishes well through contact around the rim. On defense, he is a great on ball defender and rebounds well from the lead guard position.

Dylan Wade- 2020 SF (MSE) Wade is a fantastically well-rounded player. He can score at all three levels, has a smooth shooting stroke and can make about anything around the rim. His size also makes him a tough defender, but he still remains quick which makes him a threat in all aspects of the game.

Isaiah Farrior- 2020 G  (MSE) Farrior is an all-around player who has a smooth shot. He is a skilled dribbler, allowing him to play both guard positions. He also has great court vision and playmaking abilities.

Tyrek Howard- 2020 G  (Alabama Defenders) Howard is a constant scoring threat at all levels.  He has an exceptional handle and a crafty playmaking mind.  Defenders constantly struggle to stay in front of howard, as his extremely shifty and very clever with the ball

Reginald Stevens- 2020 F (AYSA) Stevens is a skilled interior offensive presence who showed good foorwork when attacking his defenders. His length and size make him a formidable inside defender who can guard multiple positions.  Rebounding on both ends, scoring at the free throw line and playing defense are things he does well when on the court.

Jaedon Russell- 2020 SG (Hurricanes) Russell can flat out score the rock when he has the ball in his hands. He makes plays, moves well without the ball and finds his spots in transition. His ability to create shots from different levels keeps the defense guessing.

Keshon Bynum- 2020 PG (Nike Elite Stars) Bynum is a good shooter from the perimeter. He has speed and good court vision that allow him to make tough reads against the defense. His high basketball IQ also helps his team as they move the ball on offense.

A’Darius Oliver- 2020 C (Magic City Mystics) Oliver is a strong presence inside for his team. He defends well on the interior by clogging the lane. On offense, he creates space inside and finishes well.

Vincent Thomas-2020 G (Memphis Royals) Thomas is a very well rounded player. He can score in many different ways, while also making plays for his teammates. On defense, Thomas shows great work ethic.

Tristan Gatson- 2020 PG (Monroe Lightning) Tristan Gatson is a great guard. He is fast with quick feet and excellent ball handling. He sees the court well and makes good passes.

Caullin Bracy- 2020 G (Birmingham Suns) Bracy is a very skilled player. He’s got a smooth shooting stroke and a knack for playmaking in tough situations. His ball handling capabilities are also a step above the competition

Antwan Brady- 2020 G (MS Hawks Elite) Brady is a long wing player who can handle the ball. He has a nice jump shot that he mixes well into his offensive game. He is a crafty finisher once he gets to the rim, making him a complete scorer.

Xavier Hall- 2020 G (Hurricanes) Hall is a solid all around guard with no weaknesses in his game. He possesses a smooth shooting stroke and helps his team dramatically with his playmaking expertise. He runs the offense well and helps his teammates get into games with his constant pressure.

Gabriel Williams- 2020 SF (Hawks Elite) Williams is an automatic scorer at all three levels. His lanky frame allows him to stay in passing lanes, making him a threat on the defensive end. He can also play make well, regardless of the defense on him.

Laparris Whatley- 2020 G (Alabama Defenders) Whatley is a fierce defender who takes pride on that end of the floor. He can drive through the lane and finish strong using his athleticism. His ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor helps his team.
