Dallas, TX (Future150) -- For years, Dallas, TX has been a hotbed for some of the country’s best young basketball prospects. The city is arguably one of the top 5 basketball cities in the nation at this point. Known for its high scoring guards with athleticism and their big bodied, long, athletic post players that dominate the summer circuit, major college programs flock to the Dallas Metroplex to find elite talent. The 2019 class will be entering their freshman year of high school, and some will get their first real experience of Varsity high school basketball.
Three Future150 alums, and 2019 players that are establishing a good amount of pub are 5’8 PG Jayden Williams (Noland Catholic), 6’5 CF Le'Jon Doss (Noland Catholic), and 6’2 SG Chris Harris Jr. (South Garland). The three youngsters had terrific summer and spring seasons participating with Texas Elevation (Williams & Doss) and Nike Team Texas (Harris Jr.). With schools such as North Texas, Creighton, Texas State, and UT-Arlington taking early interest it seems as though their list will soon grow increasingly as the three young Texas phenoms ceilings are through the roof.
With Williams’ best asset being his point guard skills to many on-lookers, Jayden simply describes his game in one statement “I feel like I’m one of the truest point guards in the country for 2019”. Williams takes pride in his ability to make things easier for his teammates in terms of scoring opportunities and ball-movement.
“I can create my shot, and I believe I have the best IQ when I’m on the floor.” The 5’8 PG is a jet in the open floor and while being a patient guard that excels at letting plays develop, Williams can also be an aggressive scorer when called upon.
While Williams embraces his gift to set up scorers, Chris Harris Jr. is known as a flat-out marksmen who can score in an array of ways that makes his game look elite, in terms of maturity. The 6’2 guard is dangerous in the mid-range with a deadly pull-up jumper while also possessing deep NBA range from beyond the arc.
“I have an all-around game, I’m not just a shooter because I can drive and beat my defender off the dribble and finish at the rim just as well as I shoot the ball.” Harris Jr. will be one of the best scorers in Texas this upcoming school year playing at South Garland High School.
Maybe the most intriguing of the three, Lejon Doss’ strong-built 14-year old frame can make you think he is a post player. Doss is one of the more versatile young talents you will find as his 6’5 200 lb body allows him to overpower most 2019 kids, while also possessing ball-handling skills with a nice feel for finding the open man.
“I have great footwork in the post, but I also can move out to the wing and take my man off of the dribble.” Doss has a mature body for a 2019 prospect, and uses it to his advantage by being able to play four different positions effectively. “I am working on guarding the 1-5 on defense, because I think that makes me even more effective.”
Dallas, Texas never lacks for talent but with 2019 being mostly potential at this point, look for these three underclassmen to be well-known commodities among the state’s elite for the next four years.
