New York, NY (Future150) -- The high school season has just begun and freshman point guard Andre Curbelo could be in line for a big one. The Puerto Rican import may be just starting his career in the states, but he could be one of the best freshmen in New York already.
With good speed and a high basketball IQ, Curbelo is incredibly dangerous in fast break scenarios. His speed and handling also allows him to create shots for his teammates in the half court as well. While he is just a slightly above average shooter, he can knock down enough shots that defenses won't be able to sag off him.
With Long Island Lutheran being incredibly talented yet again this year, it's likely that he will end up filling more of a complimentary role and coming off the bench for The Crusaders. Still, it's hard to see him not having an impact when he sets foot on the floor.
An incredibly gifted passer, Curbelo has a surprisingly advanced game for a freshman. Between big performances at Future All-American camp and the Jim Couch Showcase this fall, things have been set up well for the Puerto Rican floor general, who has quietly made a case as the best freshman point guard in the state of New York.
