Milton, MA (Future150) -- It was a recent preseason matchup that may have helped turn the tide of what this high school season will hold for 2021 Milton Academy (MA) shooting guard Casey Simmons. Sure, his performance at our Future150 Elite24 All-American Camp this August helped boost his stock and notoriety, especially in the Northeast, but going against a nationally ranked senior is, if anything, a sink-or-swim scenario.
You could say that Brimmer & May (MA) nationally ranked senior shooting guard AJ Reeves is the type of player Simmons wishes to become one day. The Providence-bound talent is known from coast to coast for his basketball abilities, and has secured a full ride scholarship for when his high school career ends this coming spring. When the freshman got his shot to play against Reeves recently, he held his own, showing what the future of Massachusetts high school basketball might look like.
A long and lanky 6'4" wing with smooth scoring skills, he possesses the type of frame most young basketball talents can only dream of having, especially at that age. Playing at the varsity level this season, most people in the region will get the chance to see an extremely talented prospect blossom.
"I want our team to win the Independent School League (ISL). I believe we have a good chance of doing so this year. My goals personally are to contribute to my team and help us win, despite me only being a freshman."
While schools aren't actively recruiting him yet, he has the maturity and focus to know that it's only a matter of time.
"I think schools will start to show interest in me if I keep working hard and perform well," he told Future150.
With his length and skillset, he shows ability to play anywhere from point guard to small forward on the floor, including on the defensive end. While his future is most likely off-the-ball, it's important to note his versatility as a newly-minted 15 year old.
Playing with the now Under Armour sponsored Boston Bobcats this coming AAU season, the secret will soon be out on the talented wing.
Like most young prospects, he knows that the key to his future is improving his weaknesses.
"I am currently working on the consistency with my shooting and building strength. Ultimately, I want to secure a D1 scholarship for basketball at a good college so I can get a great education. If I keep working hard, I believe I can make it to the NBA."
Athletic and academic gifts aren't exclusive to Casey in his family, as his father Omar Simmons was an exceptional, nationally ranked track athlete. He was an All-Ivy selection for multiple years and made it to the 1992 United States Olympic Trials quarter-finals in the 800 meter dash.
As high school season is set to begin for Milton Academy, keep your eyes on the talented wing prospect and Future150 alumnus.
