Pottsville, PA (Future150) -- South Oak Cliff High School (TX) has a storied history on the hardwood, and have put out several notable post prospects over the years. NBA players' Dennis Rodman, Tony Battie & Darrell Arthur have all graduated from the school, giving them an impressive alumni list that very few schools can match in the big man department.
The next post standout making waves for the Golden Bears is their young 6'8", 200-pound freshman power forward, Kylon Owens. We first got our eyes on the talented big man while he was suiting up for the Texas Titans this past AAU season, where he earned his invite to the Future150 Elite24 Camp in Atlanta. Once there, he had a gigantic weekend, earning a spot in the all-star game as one of the most talented campers in attendance.
Already starting for the varsity team, he's been adjusting well to the level of competition, considering he's one of the youngest prospects in the class, not turning 15 years old until April.
Currently, he's averaging roughly seven points, eight rebounds, three blocks & two assists per game, and he's been happy with his progress, but also knows there are improvements to be made.
"I need to get stronger. Starting on varsity and playing in the post, I realize that now," he told Future150.
With his stock steadily rising over the past several months, he's used some of his free time to visit a few campuses for unofficial visits, including Arkansas, Texas & TCU.
While he currently doesn't hold any offers, there's no doubt that they'll start pouring in for the stretch-four man, who not only has ability on the low block, but has showed that he can hit mid-range and long-range jump shots with consistency. He's also a talented shot-blocker, and had the entire gym buzzing at Elite24 Camp thanks to his defensive presence.
Heading into the New Year, stay with Future150 as we continue to track the rise of one of Dallas' brightest young stars.
