Athens, AL (Future150) -- It's an impressive distinction. Lindsay Lane Christian School (AL) 2020 SG Tommy Murr is currently the #1 scorer in the country, according to MaxPreps. At 40.8 points per game, he is leading the second highest scorer nationally by over seven points per game. Just a sophomore, it's incredible to think about what his career totals might add up to.
The 6-footer burst onto our radar at our Future150 National All-American Camp in October. He put the staff on alert with his spectacular shooting performance. Our evaluation from the camp was the following:
"The best shooter in the gym over the weekend was the 6'0" Alabama prospect. Not only was he crowned champion of the 3-point contest, but he showed throughout Saturday and Sunday his ability to be the most consistent shooter in attendance. Going forward, look for him to become one of the elite shooters in the state, maybe even the nation. It was a great weekend for him overall."
In his most recent game, Murr scored 54 points, including the 2,000th of his young career. However, he's not just a scorer. He's also averaging 4.6 assists, 3.5 steals & 2.9 rebounds per contest. His team is also 12-0 on the young season, with him clearly being the catalyst.
"We really want to win our area, advance to regionals, win all three in-season tournaments, and win 20 games. We're currently 12-0, so things are going well. I want to be first team all-state, lead my team in both scoring and assists, and decrease my turnovers per game," he told Future150.
While it's certainly early in his recruiting process, a gym rat who has been dribbling a basketball since he could walk, he is hearing from Samford University. However, surely more schools will be following suit in the near future.
Playing AAU basketball with the North Alabama Flames, he is teammates with another 2020 prospect set to blow up in the spring, 6'5" wing Austin Harvell, who has the potential to be a high-major player in the coming years.
A straight-A student, he comes from a family with a lengthy basketball history.
While people in North Alabama are certainly aware of the fantastic shooter lighting up scoreboards in their area, the rest of the nation is now officially on notice.
