West Deptford, NJ (Future150) -- Going into this high school season, there are a handful of teams who can make a claim as the top team in the state of Pennsylvania. In the Philadelphia public league, it appears that this season will be Imhotep and then everyone else.
With a senior back court of point guard Daron Russell and combo guard Dave Beatty leading the way for the Panthers, expectations are high around the program.
One of the main reasons is the depth on the roster. With a talented group of underclassmen joining them, it will be very hard to match up with the Panthers this season. One of the harder matchups for opponents will be 2019 small forward Donta Scott. At 6-foot-6, the wing is a bit of a swiss army knife. He is a unique prospect in that he handles the ball exceptionally well for his size and has good vision, while still being a decent rebounder and shot blocker as well.
"I think I push the ball well and can make good passes, I think I'm also a good shot blocker," Scott said of his own game.
With eight division one prospects on this year's squad, this group is in line to make a deep run into the post season. Scott knows that and comfirmed as much.
"My expectations are for us to win state this year and play as a whole, If we can play as a whole, then no one will be able to stop us, with guys like Fatts, Dave, and myself, I think we're going to be really good, I'm going to do whatever coach needs me to do, if it's score, I'll score, if it's rebound, then I'll rebound, It's not all just about one person, it's about the team," said Scott.
St. Joe's, Villanova, UConn and Georgetown have all shown early interest in the wing. Scott has taken visits to St. Joe's and Villanova this fall and figures to be one of the more highly recruited wings in the Northeast in years to come. With his size and skillset, it is only a matter of time before he picks up his first offer; which wil happen sooner rather than later.
