Queens, NY (Future150) -- John Bowne has been brutally effective so far this season. With an 8-0 record and winning by an average of 24.5 points a game, it is clear the Wildcats are a power in their division. After going undefeated last year, it wouldn't be a shock to see them make the leap to AA sometime soon.
While a talented group of underclassmen provide most of the scoring from the perimeter, it is a freshman who makes the difference in the paint. Kareem Reid has proven to be the perfect fit for the Wildcats up-tempo system and has made an immediate impact.
"It's fun, we move the ball around a lot and let everyone score, we have a really good chemistry," Reid said of his team.
Standing at 6-foot-6, with a 7-foot wingspan, Reid is a menace defensively. He blocks and alters shots, is able to wall up and guard bigger players, and even steals the ball a surprising amount for a big man. Like most young bigs, his offense is still a work in progress. Reid is also a very good rebounder thanks to his length and athleticism, as he is currently averaging over 10 rebounds a game.
Armed with Reid and a few talented scorers, the Wildcats are in great position to win their league again. John Bowne is already sitting on top of the league standings, and beat the second place team, Forest Hills, by 17 earlier this week. It would appear that they are in line to win their division yet again.
As for Reid, whiile college's have yet to find out about the freshman big man, it should only be a matter of time. His 7-foot wingspan makes him an intriguing prospect, and he should be a monster defensively for years to come.
