West Deptford, NJ (Future150) -- It's not often that the recruiting industry talks about Irish-born players, simply due to the fact that not a lot of Irish-born players head to the states for their prep level basketball.
In that regard, Lawrence Woodmere (NY) big man Aidan Igiehon is on relatively new ground. The 6-foot-10 forward has been in the states for a year now. Now that he's adjusted to the American game, he looks like a force to be reckoned with.
"I would say that the game here is way more physical and a lot faster, but I think it suits me well. I run the floor really hard and like to rebound," Igiehon said.
At Pangos All-East, Igiehon looked to be the best big man in attendance. He dunked everything he could get his hands on and blocked a ton of shots throughout the weekend. He also showcased an improved shooting stroke from the mid-range, making him that much more dangerous.
With great footwork on the low block and the ability to score with either hand, Igiehon is quickly becoming incredibly hard to guard. College coaches are excited about what the Irishman brings to the table.
St. John's, UConn, Stanford, Duke, Syracuse, Villanova, Kansas and Georgetown have all begun to recruit him, with the Red Storm being the first to offer this spring. Because Igiehon is only a sophomore, he doesn't get to talk to coaches directly yet, so he's not comfortable saying a lot of those programs have officially offered him; which is an incredibly mature approach.
"This season, I'm just focused on trying to win a state championship, then hopefully I can play well enough to start on 17U for the Lightning and really make a name for myself nationally," said Igiehon.
If this fall is any indication, more schools will be offering very soon, as Igiehon has begun to prove that he is one of the best 2019 big men in the country.
