North Augusta, SC (Future150) -- Over the past year or so, there has been a lot of talk about Vernon Carey and his Nike Team Florida bunch. With a number of talented prospects surrounding him, they are arguably the top 15U program in the country.
Back at Peach Jam, they proved as much; knocking of an equally talented Team United squad to take home the 15U title. Carey was the best player on the floor in a game that included several other top 30 talents, and it was the type of performance that one uses to differentiate themselves between being a great player and an elite one.
At 6-foot-9, 230 pounds with a burgeoning perimeter skill set, the thought of Carey hitting their campuses three years from now has plenty of college coaches salivating.
Baylor, Florida, Miami, Louisiville, Saint Louis and Georgia State have all offered him, while Arizona, UCLA, UVA, and Wake Forest have all been showing interest in him as well.
One school is working harder than the rest at this point, something that could pay off down the road.
Jim Larranaga has been a fixture at seemingly every game this spring and summer, following Carey at every turn.
"He said that they are making me their top priority regardless of class, that makes me feel really good about them," Cary Said,
Carey has also already been on Miami's campus, as well as Florida's and Ohio State's, he plans to visit Louisville sometime soon.
As the final live period is underway, look for Carey and company to draw even bigger crowds, and for Larranaga to be front and center for every game.
