Lawton, OK (Future150) -- Most people think of the state of Oklahoma as being synonomous with high school and college football, especially in the smaller cities and towns in the rolling plains.
However, in Lawton, Oklahoma, there is a freshman point guard who has been making quite an impression on the basketball court over the past two years.
Eisenhower (OK) 5-foot-9 prospect D.J. Sims has continued to build his basketball resume on the AAU trail.
The two-time Future150 Elite 24 Camp All-Star selection has not only showcased his standout speed, playmaking ability & lockdown defense at our camps, but has also shined bright while playing with Oklahoma Elite and Southwest Elite throughout his spring and summer seasons.
In late July at PrimeTime Sports Nationals in Dallas, Texas, he played up in the 15U division for Southwest Elite, he dominated the competition, although he was a year younger than the competition.
"Playing up an age group in 15U, the true lead guard was extremely impressive on Friday afternoon. Since seeing him last in February, he has vastly improved his on-ball defense, creating several steals during action today. He also was a vocal leader for his team even though he was the youngest player on the team. He is at his best when distributing the ball, but is a proven scorer as well. The Oklahoma prospect continues to improve, and we like where he is at in his development right now."
Currently ranked as the #71 prospect in his class nationally, that hasn't satisfied Sims, who regularly rises as early as 6:00 A.M. for workouts with his trainer, honing his craft.
Keep your eyes open for the tough lead guard, who will be expected to make an immediate impact this coming season.
