Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- Wes Morgan is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard that has been attracting many schools with his elite height and shooting abilities. Wes talked to Future150 about all the schools that have expressed interest in him lately and the few that he knows already are good schools for him.
The sophomore has received interest from almost 25 schools, and has gone on visits to Georgia, West Virginia and Winthrop so far this season. Morgan is only a sophomore and already has the skills to play basketball at the Division I level right now. The reason many schools have held back on offers is because he had been coming off an injury coming into this season. Don't expect that to continue, as the offers will start piling up for Morgan soon, especially during his final two years in high school.
Morgan told me the schools he likes most right now are Iowa, Notre Dame, James Madison, Xavier, BYU and Georgia. He has also received interest from other mid and high-majors like Virginia, Baylor, West Virginia, Stanford and Creighton.
“I can offer a school a variety of things, I shoot the ball at a high level, and I have a quick confident release," Morgan said when asked about what he can bring to a team at the next level. "Not only am I a shooter, I can get to the basket and finish through contact. I also have a high motor, whether my team is up 20 or down 20 I will always be the player that is playing the hardest.”
Hard to argue with any of those things, that is the type of things college coaches love to hear a young kid say. Maturity, confidence, and an always willing attitude will take you a long way in the world of basketball, and Wes definitely possesses those characteristics.
As for what will help the sophomore make his college decision, the reasons are plentiful.
“I am looking for a school that has a good shooting system and a school that offers a very good academic program because that is where I will be for four years and get my degree from," Morgan told Future150.
The two schools that he feels meets his criteria already are BYU and Notre Dame. Both of those schools love to shoot the ball and are almost always top tier in division one when it comes to offensive efficiency, as well as both sit at master status when speaking on academics.
As for the remainder of the season as a sophomore at Ardrey Kell, the goals are simple.
“My goal this season is to help lead my team to 4A State Championship. We are ranked 50th in the nation and have a 15-1 record and are undefeated in conference, we have won 14 straight," Morgan said.
