Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- 2016 forward Varun Piplani might be just a freshman this year, yet he was one of the more impressive players at our Future150 camp in Charlotte. Standing at 6'8"already, Sunny has the ideal size for either forward position down the road.
He ended up finishing his season with his JV team after struggling to find time on a veteren-laden varisity squad. "We had six seniors and five juniors, so I decided to go down to JV," he said. Still, Piplani has no regrets.
When describing his experience at the Future150 Camp, he pointed out that the high level of competition really stood out to him. He said that the camp had helped him and that he would come back to camp given the opportunity.
Right now, Sunny's greatest strength is his mid-range game. If he can continue to improve the range on his shot he will become a major target for mid-to-high major programs as his size would make him a serious matchup problem.
He is an honor roll student, and being from North Carolina, it's no surprise that Duke is his dream school. While it's still years away, he could potentially suit up for the Blue Devils one day if he continues to progress. Look for Varun to suit up with Garner Road this spring and summer on the AAU circuit.
